    There's a good book on the QA&amp;P <U>The Quanah Route - A history of the Quanah,Acme &amp; Pacific Railway</U> By Don L Hofsommer, From Texas A&amp;M University Press. I bought mine a
year or so ago from bn.com (Barns and Nobel).

It's a history of the line from the start (as the Acme Red Rock and Northern) until the line was merged into BN, and most of the track was abandoned.

Thank you for posting the QA&P photographs.

In addition to the book by Don L Hofsommer mentioned above, there is a second book devoted to the Quanah, Acme And Pacific (QA&P) - The Quanah Route, A Texas Short Line Railroad, By Charles C. Britton, published by Joed Books, copyright 1990.

This 100 page, soft cover book also includes 60 black and white photographs and 5 maps. I just checked and it is currently available on Amazon.com and possibly other sources.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Sunshine Models in Springfield Missouri has produced accurate resin kits of the 8' inside height, DS 40' boxcar with wood ends in series QA&P 500-524. Their kit numbers are 59.7 QA&P herald and complex data lettering and 59.8 QA&P herald and modernized SLSF
data. Please see the hyperlink that follows and link to "View Main Kits List Part 2 - Rolling stock kits 32.1 - 66.5 (the middle years) (Feb. 2009)", at http://www.sunshinekits.com/allkitslist.html.

"Data Sheets" are available by railroad at http://www.sunshinekits.com/flyersbyroad.html. The QA&P kits are located at http://www.sunshinekits.com/sunimages/sun59b.pdf.

The be sure to check out the list for the Frisco kits under "SLSF". These kits have 13 data sheets that include boxcars, autocars, gondolas, flat cars, stockcars and express reefers. These are a great source for prototype information.

Martin Lofton of Sunshine Models has really done a great deal to help Frisco and QA&P equipment fans. Their kits are well done, accurate and include variations as appropriate in details and lettering. These kits help us fill freight car voids for the steam / diesel transition era.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

Also, Athearn through their Roundhouse Trains line of products announced on 10/13/2008 the release of their "36' old time wood boxcar" decorated for the QA&P. There are 2 planned car numbers - QAP 115 [product number RND84239] and QAP 118 [product number RND84240]. Please see http://www.roundhousetrains.com/Products/Default.aspx?ProdID=RND84239.

These cars are are based on their standard kit for a truss rod boxcar design, are "ready to run" and moderately priced. Although they are not specific in details to the prototype, they may provide a reasonable "close enough" option to have rolling stock lettered for the QA&P.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

A friend of mine has this book, if it's the one I think it is, but his is hard cover. It had a lot of interesting history about Sam Lazarus.

Reading the book, we discovered that Mr. Lazarus is interred in the City of Sherman mausoleum near downtown Sherman. We went and checked it out, and sure enough, there he is !!
