My name is Walter Appling and I joined because I'm doing genealogical research on my maternal grandparents. Walter A. Myers worked as a machinist at Frisco from 1923-1968. First at Thayer, MO, his hometown, and then in Birmingham at the Finley Ave yard from 1927 on. My grandmother, Orah Allman Myers, started in the Springfield office (I think) and came to Birmingham around 1940, where she worked in the claims office on 18th Street South until retirement.
I was fortunate enough to "drive" a Frisco locomotive for a few feet at the Finley yard (don't know the "real" name) in the 1950s when I was about 7 years old. A very cool experience for a little fellow. Maybe I can find some things in their slides and pictures to contribute to the site. I hope so. And I hope to learn a lot about the Frisco and its people.
