My name is Doug Berryman and I live in Augusta, Kansas, where the Frisco crossed the Santa Fe. I am a member of the Augusta Model RR Club.

We have been tasked with creating a 2 X 5 foot diorama for the newly renovated Frisco Depot in Augusta. The Depot is being used as a Welcome Center and the diorama will show the historic crossing of the two lines.

I currently model the 70's and 80's era Frisco time period and truly have enjoyed the development of the diorama.

Thank you for allowing me to come aboard!

    Joe,

Absolutely! We have researched quite extensively for the project and want it to be perfect.

Do you know what time frame that Frisco ran the mandarin and white SD -40' s through Augusta? We are looking at a certain time period and want to make certain to use the correct equipment in the diorama.

Doug, I don't know about the time era, but I'm sure there is someone here that can answer your question. Sorry!

Doug, Welcome Aboard. There are two Frisco modelers in Wichita that are Wichita Sub aficionados. Bob Hoover (friscofriend) and Tony LaLumia (friscotony). I would recommend getting to know them.

The Frisco did not have any SD40s. Were you perhaps thinking of SD45s or SD40-2s? The red and white scheme came about beginning about 1967.

Be sure to check out the Historical section, Divisions and Operations for more specifics for the Wichita sub including Timetables and Industry Schematics. I am in the process of daily adding more timetables from the Richard E. Napper Memorial Collection.

Doug, to my knowledge, there was never an SD-40 on the Wichita Sub. I have a station book that does show the engine on a train to be an SD-45, but that was a very rare occurrence
and when the train derailed at the paint plant in Andover, that was the end of that happening. Engines in the 1970 time frame were all 4 axle. There were holdover black and yellow Geeps, F units and of course all of the O/W.
U-25's, U-30's, B-37's. GP-35's, GP-40's and GP-15's. To my knowledge there was never any of the GP-50's out here.

Doug, welcome to the group. You'll not only find plenty of info about the era and locale your club is modeling, but - as you've already seen - you'll also find plenty of folks here who can help out!

    Best Regards,

    Doug -
Welcome to frisco.org. This is a good group.

As was noted above, the Frisco had no SD40's. They did roster eight SD40-2's, SLSF 950-957. They came to the Frisco in July, 1978, and served very well up to the "merger" with the BN in September, 1980. They became BN 6840-6847. I've lost track of them since then!
