Thank you for letting me in.
I'm Robert (Rob) from the UK and I am doing some background research for a small S Scale switching layout, currently looking at the Phelps Avenue/Mill St area of Springfield around 1970.

    Why the Frisco?

    I like black diesels.
There is a fantastic online resource - important when you are umpteen thousand miles away.
You guys seem a nice friendly bunch.

Please don't expect things to happen fast, my modelling progress is more akin to Plate Tectonics than Glacial Flow:)

Rob, Welcome Aboard. I understand S scale can be a bit of a challenge when it comes to equipment; a good friend Mike Fyten, models in S here in Kansas City:

Where in the UK are you located? My wife and I were over to visit her cousins in Stoke on Trent in 2018. We really enjoyed traveling to London, York, Warwick, and Liverpool. Got a cab ride on the London Northwestern from Crew to Liverpool and enjoyed some good ale from a fine pub at the Swan Inn in Wybunbury, Nantwich.

    Guys,
Thanks for all the welcome messages.
Just in the process of downloading all the FMIG newsletters and Meteors , did all the All Aboards a while ago.

All I've got to do now is read them!

Keith, did you wave as you went through on your cab ride?
I'm in Winsford, Cheshire, first stop north of Crewe, about 400 yds from the line.
I've not been in the Swan Inn but I know where it is. Unfortunately all the pubs are shut again with the latest lockdown:(.

I have been pottering around with British outline S Scale for a while now and made the most of a business trip to LA last year to pick up a few US outline bits.
I have an SW9 (D&RGW at the moment) and 10 assorted boxcars from the US trip and have acquired half a dozen covered hoppers since. Most will need repainting etc but there is more than enough there to go at.
I'm not set on the Mill St/Phelps Avenue layout as I am still exploring the Frisco but it is a good plan A. Size wise, in typical Brit style, I have 8 ft by 21 inches scenic plus fiddle yards (staging), compact but feasable.

    Keep safe out there

    Rob

Welcome, Rob. You live in an area with plenty of good football clubs to support.

I’m a big admirers of the Brit style layouts. Might take that approach as I get started just to ensure that I don’t overplan at first.
