My name is Gene Bowker and I currently live in Aiken, South Carolina which is on the old South Carolina Railroad between Charleston, SC and Augusta, GA. I became a fan of the Frisco when I lived in Arkansas and Missouri in the 1990s. I went to college in Jonesboro, AR and later lived in West Plains, Missouri. I spent a lot of time travelling up and down the old Thayer Subdivision in the BN-ATSF merger days. Currently I'm starting to write a column for Examiner.com at http://www.examiner.com/x-41880-Historic-Railways-Examiner which covers Historic Railways around the country. My current article is about the Frisco which is still my favorite fallen flag. http://www.examiner.com/x-41880-His...Railway--The-Frisco-in-the-hearts-of-her-fans I look forward to connecting with other Frisco Fans and making a pilgrimage back to Frisco Country to get some new photos.
Gene, by all means Welcome Aboard! Nice article! The River Division offers some interesting history about the early days of railroading in Missouri; specifically the Louis Houck railroad "empire". If you are interested in writing more, sources beyond the links found on this site, send me a PM and we can discuss off-line.
Hey Gene I live in Edgefield just down the road. I heard there is a sort of club in Aiken but I can't seem to get any information it. Bill
