Good day and Hello from O'Fallon, MO. Although I've just "officially" joined, I've been browsing the site (as far as guests are able) for several weeks. I'm just getting back into model railroading after a lengthy absence (to raise children, and other darned grown up responsibilities), and have always been fascinated by Frisco... and the Current River Branch in particular. I've spent many enjoyable weekends canoeing the Current River, and am always amazed by the remaining bridge piers, and abandoned roadbed which show what must have been one of the most winding, circuitous routes ever. It's beautiful country... which I believe I'll give a go at modeling. Wish me luck... and thanks in advance for the amazing documentation and pictures that I find here.
Welcome to the Frisco website, Kevin!!! Do a search for the Current River and it will bring up several threads on the Current River Branch. I hope that helps. If not please ask for help! There are several other members that could help you out better than I could. If you need help with navigation of the website I can help you there. Joe
Welcome! I've also spent a lot of time paddling/camping down the Current River and Jack's Fork and 11 Point as well. Beautiful country. My grandparents lived in Winona for seven years back in the 1970s.
Kevin, here are the links to Current River threads... http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?search/1349038/&q=Current+River&=post&o=datedate Joe
You came to the right place, lots of good stuff here on the Current River Branch...This was one of my old stomping grounds, been to every place of the line you can back into & some you aren't suppose to...Check out this website, it has a very rare photo of the Chinese Wall at Van Buren, the only other place I saw this photo was in the West Plains library in the early 80's. A hobo who reigned from O'Fallon Whose Pa had quite failed to corral him When seen on the street He was best not to meet But a boxcar he was always your pal in. (that was my attempt at a "welcome"... sorry 'bout that)
Welcome to the group, Kevin, from a little ways down I-70. The Current River Branch was a dandy little slice of Frisco, and one that would be fun to model if you like pre-WWII rolling stock and motive power and modeling lots of water, bluffs and trees. You'll undoubtedly find plenty around here about it. Best Regards,
If I wasn't so heavily invested in my little Zalma Branch I would enjoy modeling a section of the Current River Branch.
