Hello Everyone. I am delighted to be able to be here and been a train lover most of my life. My son has Autism and is 20 this year and adores all trains, but especially all old steam engines. We have ridden and helped contribute to the restorations of the Virginia and Truckee railroad in Virginia City, NV and to the Ely, NV RR museum and Engine number 40 there! We moved away from NV in 2009 and are now finally in AL, in Frisco City and low and behold there is a caboose here from the Frisco line, come to find out, number 1257. I am trying to help the town fix her up and my son is finally going to get to help on a restoration project. It is making him quite happy. He was always too young to help on the Virginia/Truckee and on the Ely 40. Now he finally isn't and I am hoping we can make 1257 beautiful again, especially since we have decided this is going to be our last home, no more moving for us, lol, getting too old anymore, at least in my opinion anyhow, . I am so very thankful you have this site! Not just for the restoration but now, I have a way to help Steven find new great places to see train history! Sincerely, TaLona
Welcome to the Frisco website TaLona!!! Thank you for volunteering to help with the Frisco caboose 1257 restoration project. Paul Slavens, in Tulsa OK, is working on Frisco cabooses 1291, almost complete, and 1288 in the early stages of construction. Below is the link for both cabooses. http://frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/sl-sf-caboose-1291.6662/ http://frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/sl-sf-caboose-1288.7673/ Enjoy. Joe
Welcome Aboard, TaLona! I see Joe has already linked you to some restoration post by caboose restorer extraordinaire, Paul Slavens. There are two posts with images of #1257 on this forum: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/slsf-1200-unknown-numbers.125/#post-1286 http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/slsf-1251-1259.127/#post-1338 The second one was scanned too small, but maybe we can get Roger Taylor to update that image. There is also a black and white image in the Frisco Archive: http://frisco.org/mainline/2014/06/18/gp38-2-685-and-caboose-1257/ Also found this one on the rrpicturesarchive.net: http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=2081384
