Hello to all, and thanks for this forum. I was born in Springfield,Mo., and always made trips to the yards. Most of my moms family worked for the Frisco in Springfield. I was taken up into the cab of an F unit, driven around the yards and got to blow the horn, all at the tender age of 2. I have been hooked ever since. I currently model in G scale/gauge, and just " broke ground" on the new outdoor empire! Not much Frisco equipment yet, [ very limited availability ] but plan on doing some custom painting and lettering. I used to do it in HO, but everything got so small as I got older!! Looking forward to conversing . Dan
Howdy Dan, Welcome to FRISCrg. Thanks for posting a little bit about yourself. We look forward to future discussions about the Frisco with a "local" from Springfield. Best Regards, mike
Hello Dan, I worked with a Rick and Charle Hyde in the SGF diesel shop. They were both boilermakers. Are you related to them?
Hi Gary, I don't believe that I am related, But I will have to check. My other passion is genealogy, so you never know. It was my mothers family that worked for Frisco, the McGilvry boys. There was George, Robert J., Robert J. Jr., John W., as well as Jesse Clay. My cousin Barbra McGilvry Phillips' husband, Larry, just retired from the line. Our family does have quite a bit of history with the line. All the McGilvry guys, except Robert J. Jr., worked during the steam era. Robert Jr. worked thru the transition to diesel. He was the one that gave me my "two year old" tour of the Springfield yards. I can remember a siding by the diesel shop, about a mile long, solid steamers waiting to be scrapped! Talk about a nightmare!! Good to hear from you. This looks like a great site for the fan of Frisco, and I am that for sure! Catch ya later, Dan
Howdy Dan, I know Larry (Jocko) Phillips. He was an electrician. Saw him about a month ago. Larry disigned the logo on the locomotive supporting the troops in the gulf in 1991 or 92.
