I just got word today that a dear friend and mentor of mine, Harold K. Vollrath passed away on Thursday, August 6, 2015. A steam locomotive fan and photographer most all of his life, K, as he was known by friends was a fan of the Frisco and many other roads. K took me under his wing when I arrived in Kansas City in 1984 and introduced me to the Kansas City Live Steamers running 1 1/2" - foot scale live steam railroading. He was a man with a kind and gentle spirit and will be missed by those who were privileged to know him.

Green Boards and Full Steam forever! He has been given his permanent pass.

I knew K a little, and recall he helped me with some of my writing projects. He had a good run, and he will be missed.

I don't know any railfan or modeler that hasn't bought some of his photos or at least seen them in books and magazines.

Always hate to hear of things such as this. He will be missed, but fortunately his work will live on.
