This goes hand in hand with my post about handling the train in Dallas at Dallas Union Terminal (DUT): When the southbound/westbound BLACK GOLD arrived in Ft. Worth at the Union Depot (usually just called the Santa Fe depot), where was the train wyed and serviced? Did it layover in the Santa Fe passenger yard until its night time departure?
A photograph a friend has in his collection shows a full passenger train in the 8th Ave. Yard in Ft. Worth. It's taken after the time the Frisco sold the FtW&RG to the Santa Fe so it's not a train from Brownwood. The photo might indicate Frisco passenger trains were serviced at 8th Ave. P.S. It's a steam-powered passenger train, probably the BLACK GOLD.
This photo was taken by Ft. Worth railfan, Vernie Barber, whose father worked for the Frisco. It's now in the collection of Steve Goen. The scene is placed near the 8th Ave. yard because of the Pulliam Concrete or Contracting Co. sign in the background. Railroaders would eat at the nearby Frisco Cafe.
Thank you. I had a cousin who lived in the 2900 block of 8th ave. I stayed down there a couple times as a kid, 9-10 years old and rode a bike down to the roundhouse. Still a little steam here and there. His son and daughter in law lived at the very end of Birds yard on the ATSF where I think the Wichita Falls line joined the Santa Fe main. When I stayed with them, I was woke up every morning by a Santa Fe 4-8-2 rattling the windows bringing a passenger train up that line and heading downtown on the main. Also saw one of the 1500s come off of there and head downtown. I think it came from 8th ave roundhouse. Loved hearing the Santa Fe 2-8-0 switching. Good times.
Probably would have been best, but I see his knees are bent and he is obviously leaning against the pilot and cut lever.
