To All: I am preparing to have Keith finishing adding the details to my U30b's. It has been an accepted practice to use Details West Snowplow for GE Hood Units (PL-130) on the front of the unit. My question is did the units also have the plow on the rear or long end? I have seen a couple of pictures that look like they possibly did. This question applies to both U30b's and B30-7's. Thanks in advance.
While I'm no expert, looking through everything that I have scanned, then yes, the PL-130 would go on each end of the U30Bs. We have not had back-end shots of a B30-7, so it "could be" appropriate as well..
Here are a few photos of U30Bs showing the plow: http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1654506 http://rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=117945 http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/slsf/slsf850ajf.jpg This is the only B30-7 photo I could find showing the plow: http://www.rr-fallenflags.org/slsf/slsf864amf.jpg
Ryan: Thanks for your research on this matter. It looks obvious that one could assume that both models had them.
I believe the Frisco U-Boats did have the DW-130 "Plow Pilot" mounted on both ends of the unit. I have not looked through all my U-Boat pics to check, but I have always mounted a "130" on both ends of my U-boat models, so I assume I did the research earlier. I did check the B30-7 pics. The one I have of SLSF 864 (probably the "Fallen Flags" shot referenced earlier) does show a plow pilot mounted on the rear. One thing to note, though, is that this same shot shows 864 to have no rear number boards or headlight on the rear, but it does have class lights. FYI. Ken
