Can anyone shed light as to how the railroad coped with the steam to diesel transition when it came to fueling, servicing and assigning passenger engines? Seems there would have been a lot of logistical problems. For instance, there would have been a time (say at Springfield) when diesels, coal burning steam and oil burning steam engines all called at the station (Just prior to dieselization, the Texas Special was pulled by 4500 coal burners; the Meteor was handeled by the 4500 oil burners; the E-7's were just arriving and the depot switchers were diesels). Also I'm sure early on, the few "new" diesels were backed up by various available steam engines. Thanks, Tom
