For all who have the HO P2K USRA 0-6-0 models, or any of the earlier brass versions, here is the diagram for SLSF 3800-3806, built December, 1919. Note the Frisco changed the tender from the standard USRA type that came with these engines. Ken
If I recall correctly, the tenders that the Frisco used with the 3800's were then mated to the 1600's that were sold to Eagle-Picher Mining and thus are still on most of the surviving 1600's other than 1630 (I can't remember whether IRM modified 1630's ex-3800 tender to make it resemble the original tender or whether they found a different one). Ken, thanks for including this drawing. I don't have Frisco Power handy but I think one of the 3800s was assigned to Kansas City, so it's a future modeling project I'd like to tackle. I've always liked the tenders that were on the 950-956 Consolidations and on some of the 3700 class 0-6-0s (such as this one http://www.frisco.org/vb/attachment.php?attachmentid=1117&d=1129477816). Has anyone modeled one of these tenders? Best Regards,
Dumb me, I was relying on what I was told about the tenders by someone at Eagle-Picher when I first discovered the 1600's working there about 1957. One big problem -- the 3800's were oil-burners and the 1600's, or at least the ones at E-P, were coal. So those tenders could hardly have come from 3800's! So acknowledging my mistake I'll now raise the question of where did those tenders really come from? Gordon
I know nothing about steam engines, could not tell you very much about one. But I know the QA&P had at least one of these with a slope back tender, a coal burner. They look "all business" to me, and are interesting. How would I be able to get my hands on one? don't see them in the Wathers wish book anywhere. Thanks Tom
