Hello everyone. I went to DIbbles Hobbyshop today to pick up my 4500 4-8-4 and Mike, who is an avid Brass Repairman and On the board as one of the guys Restoring a S.P. Steamer here in San Antonio, told me that there are 2 FRISCO Steamers, one of which is a 4-8-2 are on the market for sale and one town who owns there Locomotive are wanting to sell it off for scrap. I am not sure what the relevency of this information is but it upset me that anyone would wanna scrap a FRISCO anything, especially a Steam Engine. If this is true maybe we as a group can find a buyer for these and save them from the torch. Mikes number at Dibbles is 210-735-7721 if anyone would like to get the information direct from the source. Tom Stolte also knows him very well as he mentioned today Tom and he had an arguement over decals a few days ago. This guy is very knowledgeable when it comes to railroad stuff. Especially if it ever came to central Texas, and at one time the FRISCO did.
Hope this proves to be helpful information.

  3. Darn!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I just spent $16,000 on a mostly restored 67' Firebird yesterday. If I would have seen this!!!!!!!!!!!! I think we should at least have a small group try to combine their money for one or both engines!!! I've got five acres to put an engine of US 64 in Van Buren some track is already laid for a caboose which I hope to find. I cant really think of any northerns besides the 4500, 4501, and 4524. Are there more? and what are their road#'s and locations?
Who could do such a think besides the devils them selves BNSF & BN:(
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

4516 is in Sedalia,MO on the State Fairgrounds.

But the original comment was about a Mountain (4-8-2) not about a Northern (4-8-4).

Will, which locomotive(or locomotives) is this you are talking about?

Mike wasn't sure what locomotives they are he just said that there are 2 that the owners are wanting to get rid of or be scrapped. Like I said in my original post, he seen them on the internet and his group wants to buy them or at least one of them and paint it up for Southern Pacific, change the headlight, headlight bracket, etc. Like I said this kind of upset me, so I figured I would pass this information on to all of you. I am not certain of the relevance of what he said so I figured someone with knowledge of historical pieces such as this would see this post and look into it, back up, or squash what was told to me. And if it turns out to be true, DO Something About The FRISCO equipment that may be in immanent danger.

  8. Thanks I hope it is a mistake I have no money left to spend. Atleast i have wheels now.:)
If it is true could I get a few others interested to try to start a small donations list in an offical fund to rescue these engines? All I could put up is the five acres for a restoration spot.
P.S. another bad time feature is the fact that we just sold our last big truck and trailers last week we will need to find a mover!!!!:(

    Hey,

I think I have found a home for Frisco 1506 and the Seaboard caboose. Nothing finalized as of yet, but noone has shown any interest in the set of C of G passenger car trucks. I'll sell them or give them to a museum, but someone needs to speak up. We had a scrapper stop by and ask about them last week. They are bolt-on-pedestal friction bearing, six axle trucks. They have pretty meaty wheels, but no brass. Drop me a note if you want them

    I ALSO FOUND THIS
    Current Restoration Project [IMG]
A 1912 graduate of the American Locomotive Works, Frisco No. 1352 began life as a 2-8-0 Consolidation Type locomotive. During WWII she was rebuilt as a 2-8-2 Mikado Type, and was renumbered to 1350 series. She is currently 1 of only 3 left of her class in the United States. After being retired in the late 1950's she was sent to the scrap line, and awaited dismantling by the scrapper's torch. Thankfully, that day never came. 1352 was donated to a park in Missouri. Over the years, vandals and the elements took their toll. In the mid-1990's, the locomotive was purchased and moved to Taylorville, Illinois in an effort to restore her, but plans eventually fell through. 1352 languished there in a cramped enginehouse for years, hidden away, until the American Steam Railroad stepped in. By June of 2008 a deal had been struck with the current owner, ensuring 1352 would again see the light of day. So this brings us to where you fit in; we need your help as we currently work on Phase I of the project: to move the locomotive to our restoration facility in eastern Ohio. Phase II, of course, is to return the locomotive to full operating condition. Please check out the Help Support ASR link to learn how you can make a one time donation or become a member by joining our organization. All Aboard!
