Greg - I have an Arthur Johnson b/w print of Whitcomb SLSF 3 taken in Pensacola May 22, 1951, size 3.5"x 4.5" if that would help. It's a tad on the dark side, but shows the locomotive well enough. Not color, but perhaps it is worth an exception to get all the types of diesels the SLSF rostered in the book. Ken

Well, if you figure that pretty much every new unit acquired after 1965 was delivered in orange-white, plus many serviceable older units were repainted into the new livery, I'd say yes, there are as many if not more orange-white than black-yellow. For example, all the GP38, GP40, SD45, SD40, SD38, and all but the very first GE units showed up in O&W. There are not, however, any images in cascade green. None. Zero. GS
Guys: I am looking at a couple of slides that show a trio of SW1500s heading west through the St. Louis suburbs. This is not the Chrysler Turn, as there are no auto racks in the consist. Instead, there is a fairly lengthy cut of mixed freight, so I am assuming this is an ordinary local. Question is, how far out did this train go? I am guessing Pacific, yes? Also, does anyone know this train's timetable designation? FYI, the book is about 25% finished. I have worked my way through the Critters, Baldwins, Alcos and EMD switch engines as far as (obviously) the SW1500s. Thanx!

If it has hi-cube boxcars it's going to Valley Park (Fenton), if it's gondola's it's going to Cuba, otherwise it's difficult to say. I did see Frisco use SW1500's in road service but they always had a road unit with them if they were going very far. That's why I asked. Roger
The only visible car in one photo is a flat car (a going-away shot). The other is "comin' atcha" and it is a mixed freight. No visible auto racks. In both instances there are three SW1500s on the point. GS
On Mike Condren's web site is a photo of four 1500s mu'd at Rolla in 1970 if this of any help as far as distance traveled. Larry F.
One of them, at least, is posted in the Archive. Click on "SW1500" and it on the first screen that comes up. It is a photo taken by Michael Wise at Webster Groves. The question still is, does anyone know what train this is or where it is going? GS
