The Oil Fields Special debuted June 1, 1919 as a Kansas City to Ft Worth train. That train carried a through Pullman, via the Katy, for Wichita Falls and Burkburnett. During the 1920’s and '30's, the Frisco adjusted the schedule, equipment, and routing of the train numerous times. It seemed that even during the Great Depression, the Frisco was still going all out to get the get the passenger revenue from the KC-Tulsa-OKC-DFW routes. At the time of its demise, December 9, 1939, it was a KC-Tulsa train.
Karl, you read my mind! I have been trying to research when the OIL FIELDS SPECIAL was inaugurated and when it was terminated. I note that in my collection of timetables there were two trains by that name: one to Oklahoma City and one to Texas (Dallas and Ft. Worth) . Probably a split. Do you happen to have that dates for the termination of the Texas OIL FIELDS SPECIAL? I'm guessing it coincided with the start-up of the TULSA TEXAN. By the way, in that time period (1920s and early 30s) there were trains called the OIL FIELD SPECIAL (singular) operated by the Houston & Texas Central, Trinity & Brazos Valley, and Texas & Pacific.
