My interest in the Frisco stems out of my childhood days living in Missouri. My first train ride ever was when I was about five and traveled with my older brothers (oldest being eleven) from Monett, MO. to Augusta, KS. to visit our grandparents. It was in the early 1940's and we traveled alone...well actually we were under the watchful eye of the conductor and the porters who looked out for us. My recollection is that we spent lots of time in the snack car drinking sodas. I'm in the process of trying to incorporate this experience into my o gauge layout by purchasing cars and engine authenic to that period on the Frisco. I've found a set of Madison cars with Frisco markings but not sure they are appropriate. I'm hoping this forum will be able to provide me some insight and sources. Looking forward to the ride...Choochooboy.

In "Frisco Southwest" on page 78, there's a 1940 photo of train #303 heading for Wichita, so that's close to Augusta. The train is being pulled by 4-4-0 186, and has a 15' RPO-baggage car and a coach-buffet car. A sho-nuff "Pike-Size Passenger Train."

It's a soft cover book by John McCall and Frank Schultz, published in 1982. It's 120 pages, with probably two or three hundred photos. You can probably find one on eBay, "Abe Books" or "Alibris" (Last two, internet book sellers). Failing that, try the inter-library system at your local library.
