    Carl,

Thank you for your update. We appreciate the group's effort to move and restore these SLSF cars.

This is a great opportunity for Frisco fans to help out by donating money to the effort. This is a very expensive and complex project. Most of us who are members of this website do not have the skillset, contacts or means to do this type of work. Through Carl's group, our donations of $25, $50 or even $100 can be used in the most efficient manner and speed the work required to get these cars restored. Please see the address provided by Carl for donations.

We look forward to the next update.

    Thanks.

Pony up a few to help save the Jenks Two

I went out to the cars Friday afternoon. The man from the crane company was there. They have secured the cars with wire and welded blocks on the tracks to keep from losing the cars. Neither one of them has their brakes set.
I am looking forward to see what happens, the move is only the very beginning of this project. Next will come the stripping out of the non Frisco interiors and the inspection repair and replacement of their structures. This includes replacement glass. I never worked with this type of soft steel before. It would be best if they could be taken off their trucks for this phase and inside a building. After that would come the repair of the service systems and the very last thing is interior.
So it is time to pony up some money to cave these cars. Every little bit helps.

Yesterday was a good day. I have enough funding to pay the crane company today. I am still seeking donations for this project, because a very large portion of the current funding involves a personal loan to me from another model railroader/railfan. Donations can be sent via PayPal to carl@schorfheide.us

A special thank you to Bill Gillfillan for spending the afternoon/evening onsite with me yesterday.

Thank you to the RRTulsa community for all your support and encouragement for this project,

    Carl Schorfheide

Bad News, Ark Wrecking couldn't wait and the cars were scrapped today. See story below from the Jenks newspaper. We need to thank Carl for all the efforts to try and save them.

Time runs out for railroad cars

A backhoe from Ark Wrecking demolishes the first of two old Frisco Railroad
cars that have been parked for years near the intersection of First and A
    streets.

A feverish effort by a group of railroad enthusiasts wasn't enough to save
    Jenks' two Frisco Railroad cars.

A crew from Ark Wrecking Co. of Oklahoma began demolishing the cars shortly
before noon today. The crew made short work of the last remaining portion of
Jenks' railroad depot before starting on the adjacent railroad cars.

The city voted to pay Ark Wrecking $6,000 to clear the site near First and A
streets on July 19. Officials want the work completed before Monday, when
long-delayed work on the A Street reconstruction project is expected to
    resume.

Carl Schorfheide, a professional model railroad builder, had spearheaded
efforts to save the railroad cars.

Schorfheide had worked out a plan to hire a construction crane to lift the
cars onto the adjacent railroad tracks and have them hauled off by
locomotives to a safe place for temporary storage until a use could be
    determined for them.

But in the end, Schorfheide wasn't able to work out the scheduling between
the crane company and the railroad in time to save the cars.

There's nothing more petty than a small town city government, unless maybe it's a large town city government!

Think my 31 years with the US Government leads me to a different view on this story. My conversations with the city and Ark wrecking were polite but unproductive. I like the part of the cars being in ebay. Better yet "You had 20 years to get them if you had that big a hankering for them". There is something more to this story but what?
It is funny how groups will spend millions of dollars restoring an old war bird sunk in an ocean or how people will pay thousands of dollars for some "superstars" underwear preferably dirty  but these old rail cars get little attention :(.
Time to focus on the next project. There are other rail cars out there in danger. May these old rail cars get recycled into new ones. We need to use this as a learning experience.

Latest breaking news on effort to save the Frisco passenger cars

Unfortunately I ran out of time at 11:26am this morning. I was still refining my solution for The City of Jenks at that time. I did have a solution figured out that would minimize any disruption to the citizens of Jenks and not delay the street contractor that was returning on Monday the 23rtd. I just ran out of time to convince the city that I had a solution that was a win situation for ALL parties involved.

Please understand there are NO bad guys in this result.

The City of Jenks tried for several years to donate the cars, they and the
railroad equipment brokers involved were looking for museums, and we don't have one in Tulsa.

ARK Wrecking was working with me to the last minute. I ran out of time when the landfill closed due to the rain this morning. ARK had agreed to demo the depot and haul it off before working on the passenger cars, to give me as much time as possible today. When the dump closed they had to stop hauling the depot and had to turn to the rail cars.

Bennett Steel was a great company to work with developing the plan to lift the cars.

The Tulsa-Sapulpa Union Railway was very generous to consider assisting with this project and inspecting the cars for suitability to be moved by rail.

My thanks go out to all these entities and companies, and the many others that were contacted about this project and helped to refine the plans to save these pieces of history.
