Hello everyone! I am one of few helping to restore the Frisco No.4500 which has been in the works for many years now. It has been saved from a delapidation and is nearing the time for it`s move to her park. Recognition of its short yet important service and the men who helped make her shine again would be awesome closure for this monster who was looking at some bad days. Can anyone recomend a frisco orginization that might possibly be charitable with a plaque of the locomtive`s history
Sure could,I will have to retrieve them again my computer had to be serviced so it might be a couple of days. Some from early 2006 less boiler jacketing and primer to now with her original blue and silver plus many parts. townwestsertomaclub.org/fricso4500.htm will show you some pics of the move from Owasso,OK. Keep an eye out Iwill get some posted.
Nice work. Several years ago, 4 of us from the St. Louis Steam Train Association met with a Tulsa city official to attempt to lease the 4500 for possible return to service. I was particularly impressed with the condition of the boiler shell. It looked as pristine as when it was new. It's a shame the city didn't respond. I can help with photos of in service 4500s if you are looking for parts placement.
Thank you,it has been challenging work. We have a couple of albums taken from the deteriorating 4501,but would love to have any pics you have of running service 4500`s. I do agree and am discouraged that our city would not attempt to fire it for an excursion service.
As nitpicking suggestions, try mixing flat black with your silver paint for the smokebox and firebox to give it a graphite and oil look, as it was in service. The white rims on the wheels were only for the builder's photos and as soon as they went into service, the Frisco painted over them. The photo shows 4500 brand new at Lindenwood in 1942. Critics are everywhere aren't they? :~)
It is a shame its quite possible she will never run again, but it is nice for the city of Tulsa to allow the 4500 to be shown as a beautiful part of frisco and Tulsa’s railroad history. Along side a route 66 tribute.
The April 2007 issue of Trains magazine has a letter in the Railway Post Office section entitled "Fate of Frisco 4500".
The name HABENERO makes me think of somebody with an iron stomach that is helping us with this engine, yes/no? Imagination is beautiful, but at an average height I am still in awe!
Hey Jared! Well I dont know if you know, but the brake cylinders for the tender car kicked our ass the week before and from what I understand Mike & Ed managed to get the air pumps installed last week sometime. 1. Other than that everything OK? 2. Seen the UP steam schedual yet?
I had a hand in on the air pumps, and the feed water pump. BNSF had a big truck with a crane as well. Sorry to hear about the tender brakes. I am doing great, hope you are aswell. As far as UP, yes I have. I never had a chance to see 1522 run. Does anybody know of any Frisco steam still running? B.T.W. The pic's are of most recent progress.
