I'm planning on using a roof from another car.

For my own needs, I bought some of the Wheels Of Time cars to scavange the roofs. my plan is to splice the roofs from two cars together to make one long enough for some of my other projects, which are based on Rivarossi heavweights.

The heavyweight roofs will get new life by being cut down for head end cars (I also have one of the Bachmann shorty heavyweights. I haven't checked yet to see if that roof will fit on the WOT cars).

Just to follow up on the project to get a good standin for SLSF322 from one of the Wheels of Time cars...

I found the roof from the Bachmann shorty heavyweight, and decided to see what I could do with it.... The Bachman roof has the window glass integrated into it, and the WOT baggage cars have a structural cross-brace accross most of the length of the car near the top of the side walls.

Also, the bachman roof is about 1/16" too short for the WOT baggage car.

What this means is that fairly major surgery is required to get the roof onto the cars (one of the two MUST be cut down). Since the roof was going to need to be lengthened anyway, I went ahead and cut the glass off the roof so I could try to fit the two together.

The good news is that the profile of the roof matches the ends of the car, so once the windows are gone, the process of joining the two parts shouldn't be bad at all.
