Hello all, I've made a Groups.io for discussing subjects related to modelling the Frisco and its associated lines.

EDIT: The link to the group has been removed, as I have decided to delete the group.

Confession: Though I do have some HO scale Frisco equipment, I no longer actively and consistently pursue modeling the Frisco, thus my comments need to be taken with a grain of salt.

    That said...

Seems to me an email group focused on modeling the Frisco may impact (lessen) the modeling content that gets posted here at Frisco.org. IMHO, this site needs to be trafficked, supported by those that will/can, and frequented to insure it's continued presence.

Any Frisco-focused email list or group that detracts from the above is potentially detrimental to this site.

I see what you mean, though I assure you that was not my intention; I hoped this would instead augment rather than detract from this site.

That said, I entirely understand if this violates the site rules, and I'd be more than happy to take the link down.

I haven't a clue if posting your link violates any rules of this site. I'm just a minion among the adherents here at Frisco.org.

To be clear on my part: Seems to me you are quite free to do whatever you chose in regards to creating/owning a Frisco-oriented email list/whatever.

I was just sharing my personal thoughts as to Frisco-oriented sites that siphon Frisco related modeling material away from this site. Just wondering out loud as to what impact other Frisco lists/sites have on this one.

I see two disadvantages to a separate website strictly for modeling.

First, this site has a wealth of modeling information, going back to the 1970s and even the included FMIG (Frisco Modelers Information Group) material, and it is well organized and readily available. A new website would not provide such ready access. I do, however, think the search engine on this site is worthless and needs replacing.

Second, much of the modeling resources that one needs are also historical and operational resources, so they also would be isolated. And most of the historical and operational data that exist are already hosted on this site, with the exception of Mike Condren's photos, hosted by the Arkrails NRHS as "Condrenrails." That's why we are gradually seeing a significantly reduced input of such information. Within a few years from now, anybody who actually experienced the prototype Frisco will be out of service.

Upon further reflection, I think both of you have raised very good points. In light of that, I will delete the group. This site does an excellent job as it is, so there isn't a real need for another one.

James, thanks for your assistance. I have been dismayed at the proliferation of postings on Facebook in multiple groups centered around the Frisco; most of the people there do not duplicate their postings there on this forum. As result, much historical, unique information and photos that could be captured here and presented in an organized, searchable, and most importantly preserved digitally may be lost to the vagaries of Facebook since the groups could be taken down or dropped or made very private.

I am sure klrwhizkid has seen postings on the Facebook group "Western Arkansas and Eastern Oklahoma Railroading." Just today (April 26) it has posted a shot of caboose 1210 (different than the one in the Archive) and an August 1978 one of caboose 1224 resting at Fayetteville, AR.
