Attached are pdf prints of the slides from the Powerpoint shows for the clinics given at Springfield on March 24, however without narrative, they may lack some clarity. Chris' presentation was set up to run with embedded mp3 narrative. Unfortunately, the website does not support uploading Powerpoint or mp3 files, so we can't provide the Powerpoint show.

Keith, thanks for posting. I can work on a transcript that has more smoothness and less stammering than my actual product.

A big thanks, too, to Keith for serving as runner, downloaded, technical support. Without him, I would still be sitting here with a work in progress, and Ron Williams would have been left with 45 minutes to film.

The rather slapdash PowerPoint show reminded me of my first car: it was ugly, but it worked.

Really regretted not being there-especially after the Mizzou baseball game I worked ended up being a cold, damp and lengthy affair. Note the start, end time and time of game on the scorecard.

  3. I’ll try to post some weekend pics tonight. I took pics of presenters and models. At least you guys will get some idea what went on. It was a good time. Lots packed in a short time.

  4. OK guys. Here goes. First off we had a great time. Getting to meet up with some members and even put a face to a name was fun. Some were people that had not seen each other in many years. The turnout was good. 35ish? people I would say. The presentations all went well. Charlie showed a great collection of modern photos. Followed with Keith showing us all we are just not as smart as him. He did a presentation on installing DCC/ sound to HO scale locomotives. Keith did great and convinced me not to try it myself. HA
Chris had a power point show with some great photos then we watched even though he was committed to baseball that day. We are supposed to tell him the crowd went wild with applause.:D
Ken did his presentation of using secondary yards which included many photos from his amazing layout. The roundtable and BS session with former SLSF employees was fun with many crazy stories in just a few minutes. Ron, Bill, Keith and others really put on a good show for us. Enough blabbing heres the photos...

  5. The mini-convention gave my dad and I a good excuse to hit some FRISCO sites along the way. On the way down we stayed near St Louis Thursday night. That gave us Friday to take our time and head to Newburg where he is from. So here goes some more pictures like it or not.

After the meet we headed to nearby Grant Beach Park to see 4524. They have it well protected now and just finished a new depot onsite:

We did not see a train go through Newburg but they had some MoW equipment stored there.

However we saw quite a bit of action in Springfield. With the shop gone it is sure a sad sight. But there was a fair amount of power on hand. we got to see one very long coal train pull in and some helpers move around.

Hope you like it. Hopefully some one else has some pics to share as well. Thanks

Steve, thanks for posting. Really picking myself some more for not making it.

That high-nose U25B is enough to make a guy reconsider diesel modeling. Brad's work, as always, is second to none. Nice Frisco representation all around.

    Best Regards,

  7. You are welcome chris. I’d hoped we would get to meet up. Next time.....

hard to believe Charlie’s U25b is 40 years old too!!!!

    Steve -

Sure looked like a great weekend! Sure wish I could have been there with you all. Looks like a good session.

I would have paid money to join you and Jerry on the Newburg visit! The Houston House looked pretty good - is it still open for breakfast and lunch? Last time I was there, some nice Newburg ladies were running it, they gave me a free lunch. I gave them a bunch of Frisco stuff to display if they wanted to.

The weekend was bad for me - my PC got hacked early Sunday morning! Yes, it's an Apple MacBook Pro. Thought they were relatively safe, guess not. They got a few files, but nothing in them to cause damage, but it scared me. A collateral damage of great proportion was that all my Frisco photos and files are gone - they deleted them - photos, TT's, other valuable files, etc. I'm working with Apple now and we have recovered the PC after scrubbing it. Now working on recovering files. Apple Help is helping at no cost. This has really hit me in the gut.

Oh yes, I did win a seat on the condo board. Great! So now, I get to sit in on endless meetings. Sure wish I could have joined you guys in Newburg!!!!!

    Rats!!!!

  9. Thanks Ken. We did have fun. He has some great stories of life in a town of 464 people. As we pulled into town out of nowhere he said "the FIRST time I got hit by a car was right here" HAHAH That was the start of it. He was excited that we had to wait for car at the stop sign on the hill too. To me the funniest thing was going to the park where the roundhouse was, it still oozes oil out of the ground in big black patches. LOL It will until the end of time I am sure.
The turntable ring is still visible:

We did go to Rolla Ken, but only for gas and food. I figured you and Kurt would like seeing the old Santa Fe SD 40 still in its old paint.

    Steve and all,
Who brought the Lenexa Depot and 19th Street engine house? They look like Rick McClellan's renditions, but I didn't spot him in the photos anywhere.

    Best Regards,

    Steve -
Did you try some Pryor's pizza in Rolla? Good stuff - still in my top three pizza places!
Back in my days in Rolla (1960-1964), two bucks would get you a large pepperoni pizza and a coke, plus about five cents change. Almost every time I'm in Rolla (rare now since we are in Florida), I would stop by at Pryor's for lunch. They have the old 1960 menu board posted on the wall; brings back lots of memories. They used to be in an old streetcar up on US-63 north of campus. I lived in a motel that also had student housing, 1962-1963, only a short walk away from Pryor's.
    K

ps - Pryor's is located on south US-63 now, just past the Frisco overpass, before you reach MO-72.

  13. We did not Ken. If I knew about it we would have. I could easily have pizza at every meal.:(Might be why I'm fat eh? HA I'll ask my dad if he knows it. That is about the same time he was at School of Mines too.

    Ken,

Had Pryor's for supper last night good as ever, bet you can't get that in Florida!

You got that right Brad! Good as the Naples restaurants are (very good - seafood in particular), nobody here knows how to make a good pizza. There are two we found that are OK - but I give them only a B+.

My top three are: Farotto's St Louis: A+++ (unequaled!), Via's-II St Louis: A+ (unfortunately no longer in business), Pryor's Rolla: A+

    K

PS - I always get a kick out of Pryor's sign out front:

    Ken,

Farotto's huh, I'm still going to be in St Louis for awhile, you've peaked my interest, better than Pryors? I' going to have to look them up and see for myself.

By all means Brad - give them a try. Farotto's is in the city of Rock Hill in StL County, on Manchester Road, the north side, just west of Rock Hill Road.

If you go for lunch, they have a nice lunch package - 9" pizza with the Farotto salad, which is also very good.

    K

ps - All the Pizza ratings I posted above are for a thin crust pepperoni, with mozzarella cheese, which is all I ever order.

ps#2 - Rock Hill, of course, is a city that was honored with a car name in the Frisco portion of the Texas Special red & silver Pullman-Standard streamlined set - SLSF 250, RPO "Rock Hill".

    Ken,

Not to stir things up, but I ate at Farotto's tonight, it was good, but I'm still going to have to mark Pryors as my number one!
