Hello, I was curious if anyone knew how EMD applied serials on their plates, when locomotives were remanufactured? A number of the Frisco Baldwins were remanufactured between 1957 and 1959, including our 200. The original Baldwin plates and serials were retained, but an EMD "hamburger" plate was added to the cabs. I have come across order numbers (8520s-8560s for those done in the 1959 batch, our 200 was 8559) but never anything to point to a serial number; or if the order number was simply used? Does anyone know, I would like to have new plates made for 200, but do not know what to have engraved for the "SERIAL" or if it should just be left blank? Surely EMD put something there. -Jacob
I have received 3 answers over this time: someone with an original builder's plate with blank serial; engine block serial used on plate (200's is 11061); and re-engine order number (here 8559) used. Just wanted to update. Cheers.
