    Ken,

I believe this is the best we can do.

Two Mike Condren photographs in black & white, SLSF 2002 and SLSF 2005.

One of SLSF 2002 from the Stuart Kurth collection

    A Hallmark E7A (EA7) decorated as SLSF 2002.

This just up on random media

  4. I previously purchased a copy of the E7A (EA7) SLSF 2005 "Winchester" drawing name on e-bay.

The size of the copy of the drawing is 5'-8 " x 1'-8".

Looking at the details of the design drawing, there is a designer's signature on January 19, 1950 in EMD.

The location of the E8 specification modification was done at the Frisco Springfield shop.

However, was the design drawing of the name done at EMD?

I am sorry, but if you know the facts, please let me know.

I also bought the EA8 SLSF 2010 Count Fleet and SLSF 2012 Flying Ebony name drawings on e-bay at the same410 time.

I understand your question, but do not have a knowledgeable answer for you.

I am sure that others have the ability, and will get back to you.

Thank you for your support and interest.

  6. Hi Sherrel

Nice to meet you. Thank you for your reply.

I am sorry to ask my sudden question. We sincerely thank you for your kindness. I understand.

I am not in a hurry, so I would be grateful if other members could provide information on the question.

It is an honor to be able to talk to the members of Frisco.org o_O

I am very grateful, because Frisco information is difficult to obtain in Japan.

I was fascinated by the fact that the horse names were drawn on Frisco's E7A (EA7) and E8A.

I have never seen a Japanese locomotive with a name.

    I really like America's open-minded playful spirit.

    Thank you.

    Regards.

It looks like you have at least one very desirable Frisco document and possibly 2 more.

They are treasures for this group! This is especially true if they are 1.7 meters by 0.5 meters. That might mean they show "Winchester" full size as it would be for painting on the locomotive!

At least one more E7A (EA7) passenger locomotive paint diagram has been posted on Frisco.org.

This was in 2012 in this thread.

    http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index.php?threads/e8a-as-delivered-paint-schemes.2800/

Klrwhizkid wrote post #18 that showed full copies of the paint diagram for E8A SLSF 2006 "Traveler," sister to "Winchester."

There is some good discussion there about how and when changes to the E7A (EA7) and E8A paint schemes were made.

The posted drawings also have the signature box indicating EMD helped produce the drawing.

    @Japanese FRISCO railfan

The original drawings that you describe were done at EMD. Be careful; what you show is not an original, but a copy. The others are as well.

It would nice to have those scanned on a scanner that could make one full scan of the entire drawing and then post it on this forum.

I have a friend that has a large format continuous scanner that can handle sheets up to 42" wide but of any length. I am also hoping that he may have the originals in a large collection of EMD drawings that was donated to him by a former EMD employee. It filled the back end of a bob-tail box truck.

I have it on my agenda to help to begin to go through, catalog, and help scan them in the near future. He also has a large collection of print photographs that he was given as well by a brass model manufacturer that has gone out of business.

  10. Hi Windsor Spring,

Thank you for your kind and wonderful email.

The detailed painting drawings of E8A SLSF 2006 "Traveler" posted on Frisco.org by Klrwhizkid are very nice. It is a valuable treasure material for me. I was impressed.

It was a great learning experience as the details of the painting of the cat whiskers were discussed in detail.

I am sorry, but my guess is that the design drawing for the E7A (EA7) horse name was drawn by the EMD designer, the painting and remodeling work for the E8A specification was done at Frisco's Springfield shop, but it is wrong. Please forgive me if you have.

Just in 1950, the E8A was manufactured by EMD, so I think that the design drawing of the horse name of the E7A (EA7) was also done at the same time.

I also think that there was cooperation and support from EMD to the Springfield shop.

I would appreciate it if any members who know the information on this process could tell me.

Thank you very much for your kindness.

    Regards.

  11. HI klrwhizkid

Thank you for your kind e-mail.

As you point out, the horse name I have is just a copy of the original drawing. I think that the original drawing is saved somewhere.

The painting drawings of E8A SLSF 2006 "Traveler" posted on your Frisco.org are wonderful. I am thrilled to see the details. The detailed discussion of cat whiskers was also very educational.

I am sorry, but I could scan a copy of the drawing and send it to Frisco.org, but I wondered if there is a place in Aomori that is in the countryside in Japan that can scan such a large size increase.

I am very interested in cataloging the drawings of former EMD employees.

I will send a photograph of my E8A SLSF 2010 Count Fleet, SLSF 2012 Flying Ebony drawing copy to the E8A corner.

    Thank you for your kindness.

    Regards.

I stumbled upon this photograph online. No known photographer. Date reputed to be March 28, 1964, taken at Springfield, MO.

I thought it nice and felt I ought to share it here with you other Friscophiles!

It should be no surprise that by this day during 1964 the Frisco had set aside these two E7As (EA7s).

During the previous 6 years, the Frisco discontinued six passenger trains, i.e., the Kansas Division (KD) line local, The Black Gold, The Memphian, The Firefly, The Texas Special, and The Oklahoman. This reduction of passenger service obviated the need for ten Redbirds, and the older E7As (EA7s) were an obvious choice for early retirement.

It should be noted that by this time, the Frisco had set the wheels in motion to discontinue all of its passenger service.

I will have to look back at the old Mike Condren "Paint Shop" columns.

But for the reasons Karl's outlined, I would guess that the E7As (EA7s) never saw the subsequent, post-cat whiskers schemes of red with cigar band or Mandarin orange and white.

I think it interesting how the red on the SLSF 2003 has faded to a putrid pink of sorts.

Who is going to be first here to model that effect?

    :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO:

What is scary, is I think it would be interesting to model such an effect, IF I had some other Frisco model E's not so faded to showcase the contrast. o_O

    Chris,

My records indicate one Frisco EMD E7A / EA7 received the red with yellow bow wake only scheme; SLSF 2001, Ranger.

I have not been able to locate any evidence that any of the first six E units received Mandarin orange and white.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

I am fairly certain I have seen articles on how to recreate the "chalking" effect with models.

But I'll be doddurned if I can remember where I saw it.

    Odds ā€™nā€™ Ends.

It should be noted that Steel Dust, in spite of her chalky appearance has a freshly painted pilot.

The three E-8 units, SLSF 2017, SLSF 2020, and SLSF 2022, that received the Mandarin orange and white livery, were painted during July 1967.

This was after the demise of The Oklahoman, May 13, 1967, and at this time, The Southland was on its last legs.

    What was the Frisco thinking?!

    Discontinuances:
    The Oklahoman, Nos 111/112, July 1, 1958.
    The Memphian, Nos 805/806, October 25, 1958.
The Texas Special, Nos 1/2, January 5, 1959; Just think about it, the KD line local out lived the Texas Special.
The Black Gold, Nos 517/518, January 9, 1960.
The KD Line Local, Nos 309/310, October 15, 1960.
    The Firefly, Nos 117/118, May 22, 1960.
