Bob I am going to get the Bachmann 4-6-0 ATSF 498 and reletter the cab for Frisco like you did. I do have a couple of questions.

    1. The 498 on the tender is silver but aren’t the Frisco decals white? Or did you reletter the tender also?

    2. If you just did the cab, I’d like to buy the cab side “Frisco” decals from someone. I don’t need a whole set for just the cab on one engine.

    3. I’ve been coveting your Frisco lettered Bachmann 2-8-0 for a long time. If you ever get tired of it, let me know. Or anyone else who might have one.

    1. I left the 498 as-is from the ATSF model, and am doing a second renumbering with K4 Decals set. I have not noticed as silver but am generally inattentive. Cab decal is from K4.

    2. There is a set from K4 decals with various sizes for the cab. They have a web site and an eBay store. https://k4decals.com/. I think you may have to order two sets to get all you need.

    3. That loco is one of my prized models, along with a brass one from Don. I will leave it to you in my will. Ha.

The only problem, Bob , is that at age 73 I’m probably 20 years older than you and a lot of others here. :coffee::LOL::ROFLMAO:

Seriously, though. Everyone should carefully assign their prized and beloved model railroad equipment snd railroadiana to the proper people, while young. I’m leaving mine to a friend who is about 10 yr younger than me who has a son in his mid 20s, so my stuff will be polishing rails somewhere for another 40 or 50 years. Don’t let your collection be pitched. Like I’ve heard about too many times. Take care of this important business today.

One other question about the 4-6-0. Is the factory set sound volume still very low? Like the earlier Spectrum engines. And is the headlight still anemically dim?

Patrick, the sound is a medium level and similar to the programming on the 2-8-0 Tsunami. It is a bit tinny compared to a professional install with a higher-quality speaker. I will post an image with the headlight, but it is not too dim. I don't care for super-bright headlights, so I find it OK.

P.S. You are right about the ATSF lettering/numbering. It is a silver gray vs white.

Occurred to me that you could just very lightly dust with black weathering powder the white Frisco on the cab to tone it down match the tender lettering.

Bob, what are the grass and tree products in that picture and their colors. That’s pretty much the appearance I want on my layout but I can’t see anything before I buy and can’t afford lots of trial and error.
