Does anyone make decals that would work for an FM H10-44 in the as-delivered scheme?

I have an an unnatural liking for all things FM...

The F-Ms were very stylish and when the Frisco sent them to Tulsa and organized a shop force to keep them maintained, they proved to be pretty dependable. BTW They looked a whole lot better in black and yellow than Mandarin and white.

Impressive looking machine, and the paint scheme emphasizes it. I remember seeing FM's as lad in KC (ATSF Zebra's), but wasn't around them close enough to remember their sounds and such.

Thats railroad roman lettering. Look at the Microscale lettering sets.

Microscale has a bunch of stripe decals, but likely not exactly sized to fit your FM. Perhaps the GP7 decals can be cut to fit? But, using two different suppliers runs the risk of not quite having the same color match. The Microscale stripe and lettering colors are the same as on the 87-85 set.

But, you may need to do the hood corner stripes one by one. The side sill stripes, however, should be a snap with the right stripe spacing decal sheet. I've done this a couple of times and enjoyed it. But, remember, I'm kinda weird. I actually enjoy decal work very much - my favorite part of finishing a kit.

Microscale is one of my favorite decal firms to work with. Very thin, trimming not necessary, kind of delicate but if you handle them gently, and they are new, no problem. But, remember to use the Microscale blue and red solutions, in that order.

ps - One of the last model building binges I was on before moving here from St Louis was to build four WW-1 1/72 German fighter aircraft kits. I bought them while we lived in Cincinnati in 1976/1977. The kit decals were all dried out, so I had to pitch most of them. Instead, I used some German WW-1 1/72 Microscale decal sheets I still had, also bought in Cincy in the mid-1970's, which I had kept in storage ever since with my railroad decals. They went on like clockwork, only one small decal broke, and I was able to slide the two pieces back together with no break apparent. Spectacular results! I have them here in Naples - two Fokker DR-1 triplanes (one for the Red Baron, one for Werner Voss), one Albatros, one Fokker D-7 (best fighter plane of WW-1, this one for Ernst Udet).

Udet was a big ego type. He had them print "Du doch nicht!" on his tailplane as a warning to Allied pilots who might be lucky enough to get on his tail. He survived the war, became good friends with Charles Lindbergh, and became a key proponent of dive bombing aircraft tactics.

"Du doch nicht!" means "You can't do it!" Ha!, I love it.

The GP7 decals--who makes those? I looked at Microscale website under SLSF and didn't see them.

I always liked the Albatros. Nice graceful streamlined lines. Maybe that's why I like F units so much.

frisco.org is full of postings about the new HO GP7 decals. Take a look at the recent forum postings. I'm not sure of the name of the supplier, but there is a posting with the web page to contact. They also have SW7/SW9 decals.

Can anybody point gna to the right forum?

    Must be "Decal Special Run"

I need to go back in time and vote for H10-44 in the poll...

The new GP7 decal set: Mask Island also had a chance to fill the needed "switcher" full stripe niche... but IMHO blew it with their choice of the "simplified" scheme of which almost ALL of the factory painted Frisco switchers were offered. (BLI EMD's, most of Stewart's Baldwins, Walthers FM, etc.) Never did figure out Mask Island's reasoning on that one.

I Googled Frisco Switcher Decals the other day and Mask Island popped up, but the stripes aren't right for the Fairbanks Morse switchers:

OK, GARY, Please Explain Your Statement above!
I just spent the last 1/2 hour looking at EMD switchers in the archives - and have found so many different "stripped" versions ... how would I know which one is the correct style that you are referring too?

I think that #262 (I believe it was) with the Roman Lettering is my favorite?

BTW - That pic of the FM that you started the post with is a great photo - LV IT!

I was not being precise. When I say the stripes aren't right, I mean in reference to the picture at the top--I was comparing Mask Island #261 to FM #278 at the top of this thread. I'm sure they are correct for some of the schemes.
