I have "retired" my steam locomotives from active duty. The 726/RR was given to me when I was 3 and without magnatraction, could never pull much. So, I got the 736. It pulls well, but when the load is long, the dual engine 2343 "A" in a forward/backward lashed configuration pull much better and with less voltage. So, I have put the steam locomotives on some extra track and display them in our downstairs family room. I have the locomotive, tender and a 6457 caboose for each. I would like to apply power to the lights, without making the train move or the tender whistle. I'm thinking that a standard modern day 12 VDC power supply, applied to the track(s) will light up the lights. I don't want to blow anything, so I am asking the question first. Is there a reason that won't work or is there a more optimum solution. I have a whole tote in my closet of old, unused 5 VDC and 12 VDC power supplies. Thoughts on that plan? Thanks, Scott
You would have to disconnect the motor from track power and make certain the lights are connected to the track pickups.
