Today I finally got a spray can of |-|Chevy engine block red|-|. I have one of the Athearn Frisco GP40-2's (my first Frisco loco) that I weathered last spring and it turned out HORRIBLE :eek::eek:. so I used the original factory paint lines and masked off the white parts then sprayed the |-|orange|-|. Just finished and it came out pretty well. I still need to redo the white, but the can said I need to let the paint cure for a week before doing to much with it, which is convenient because I'm going to be in Washington DC all next week (I probably wont be able to get on a computer). So next week I will do the white and post pictures comparing this to the orange atlas (and now Athearn) uses. Oh, and the stuff I picked up is Dupli-Color Chevy Orange-Red DE1607.

PS, still hopping to attend Katy Days in Parsons

  2. Cool hope your engine comes out well. If you have anymore of that organge paint you could use it on atleast one more engine if I see you the the Katy Days. I started packing your engines and cars up. I hope you enjoy these cars. BTW the AT-SF engine got damaged by my cat. I have a matching UP Gold engine I'll be willin to put in in its place if you want. The UP engine is better anyway. Hope you get to go. If you do I'll see you there. I'll be the dork who attended a katy days fest in a Frisco t-shirt. If anyone else is going hope to see some other people there too.
    Ship it on the Frisco!!!

Hey, Ethan, where did you find the paint, and are you leaving the masking tape on while you wait for the paint to cure, or did you remove it already? Thanks, Terry

Found it at O Riley auto parts. I let it dry to the touch, then a little longer then took the tape off. You will diffidently want to put on clear coat after it's fully cured.

Thanks, Ethan for the quick response and info. I have a couple of undecorated engines I need to paint, and knowing where to get the paint will help. Terry

Yeah. I think this paint is a little thicker than Krylon, which is all the other stuff I have. Also make sure to get the narrowest blue painters tape you can get. One last tip, after you spray the whole thing white, and mask it for the orange, put down another coat of white over the tape so the orange doesn't bleed down.
