FYI, 4003 is no longer in W. Pacific. It got purged in a roster thinning. However 4030 is in the fold and another 4000 is well into a build. Doing a lot of smaller engines now. I have 3 1040-1059 pacifics under way.
In fact, I have a new-in the box PFM decapod and a 4300 which is disassembled for painting I would sell.

Thank you Don for gracefully acknowledging my feeble effort at modeling. I actually have a ton of Athearn blue box kit cars to sacrifice in learning how to detail cars and how to use an airbrush to paint and weather. One thing that might be to my benefit is that I now easily recognize poor work which I didn’t before, and might mean I can do better than first time around.

I have a project in mind and that is redetailing and updating to 1920 an 1880’s Bachmann 4-4-0 much like Jim James did. I have the cab, headlight, stack, injectors, pilot, and certain plumbing already , just need to buy the engine and start carving. Haven’t gotten over the chicken part quite yet.

I too remember the Darwin MR articles about superdetailing a Big Boy. I tried some soldering with a soldering gun. Not much different than putting a tack in a bulletin board with a sledge hammer but I didn’t know better.
