    Hi Y'all,

Did at any time the Frisco incorporate the Elesco Feedwater System onto their steamers? I haven't seen any pics but I'm still curious.

    Thanks,

    Manny

The spot class locomotives seemed to be the lab rats for feedwater heaters.

Engines 20 and 46 had Coffin feedwater heaters, engine 57 had a Worthington feedwater heater, and engines 22 and 47 had Elesco feedwater heaters. At some point the Worthington device was removed from the 57, but the other locomotives retained their feedwater heaters until they were removed from service.

My locomotive diagrams show no other locomotives with feedwater heaters from anyone but Coffin.

Thank you Karl. I appreciate it. 22 and 47...Are they 2-10-2's?

I'm going to have to dig for it, but I have a picture of one of the 1060 class 4-6-2s with an Elesco FWH hiding somewhere. And no Karl, it's not an April Fool's shot.

Did Frisco mount them in the traditional setting of the top front of the smoke box, or did they put them elsewhere?

That only makes sense that if the Frisco would mess with the spot class engines, then the railroad would also try similar things with the 1060's. It must have ben a very short-lived experient; my diagram "notes and exceptions" don't list any feedwater heaters for the old 1060's. A look through the digital Frisco Employee Magazines may offer more info.

Manny, the spot class engines, were 2-10-2's, and the Frisco mounted the Elesco heater tranversely atop the smokebox. Collias' Frisco Power has photographs.
