Just built this Jordan '23 truck and thought I would share a photo with you fine folks. It will be located near the Zalma depot eventually. I detailed the motor and made the door open which required some fine cutting with the old exacto. Little projects like this keeps me going and I love to modify kits.
Sorry for the crappy iPhone image.

Thanks, Keith. Did you notice that I parked it on front of a sawtooth boxcar for a little Frisco content? ; )

Yes, I the truck might have picked up merchandise right from the door of the rail car.

Beautiful model! Beautiful work! Have there been any published information on how early the Frisco themselves started to offer pick up and delivery LCL service from off rail customers? I would think mabie St. Louis or Kansas City would have been starters?

The great thing about vintage vehicles is that they are timeless. From vintage layouts to modern day. Vintage dealerships, city, town and country scenes, flat car loads, junk yard scenes, abandoned and delapidated behind a barn, on display at a museum (rarely modeled) or a Pioneer Day celebration.

Modeling a museum on a layout is just the place for that non-Frisco locomotive or equipment. Frisco too, if post-Frisco is modeled!

Really, really nice job, Jim. I've seen this in the Walther's catalog and thought about getting one to set in the Wesco scene on my layout. I don't believe that I could get one to look this good, though. I do have a Micro Engineering Wheel Works Rail Truck kit, which I have never put together, but that I now have the sudden urge to go to work on. This is inspiration!

Ethan, for what it's worth, I don't get the photo, either, even after hitting ctrl-F5. I'll keep working on it...

I used photobucket to add the image. I wonder what's up with the viewing difficulty?

I have a photobucket (oh the days of the MRR magazine forums). Could you post the direct link?

Ethan and Chris take a look now. I changed the inline picture to an attachment.

Thanks, Keith. I'll try to post attachments in the future but that requires a trip to a wi fi hotspot with my laptop. My iphone works at home and I thought this photobucket thing would work. My apologies folks.

Yep it's there now. Wow Jim, that is spectacular! How did you manage to get that much detail into something so small?

Thank you but the credit goes to Jordan Products for making such fine kits. The kit included the motor but I had to slice the hood to model it in the open position. I then used fine brass wire to add to the motor and for the support rod connecting the radiator to the cowl. I sliced the door off to make it open as well. I'll either pose it at a gas station or on the side of the road with a horse drawn buckboard stopping to help.

Thar she blows, cap'n! Thanks for the help, Keith. Jim, the truck is a dandy. It reminds me of the one that was on "The Waltons."

    Best Regards,

I like the Waltons. Nice period autos and stuff. Maybe I should put a moonshine still on the truck with a tarp coming off it. Nothing like local business! Maybe I could ship it out hidden in a boxcar full of hand hewn cross ties.

I eat breakfast with the Waltons every morning! There weren´t many trains though. One episode featured an SP steam locomotive probably shot at Travel Town in LA? Whistles could be heard from time to time and trains were mentioned now and then but the White Arrow Bus Lines bus showed up quite often. Wonder how many bus lines, if any, met Frisco passenger trains at depots across the system?

I purchased Athearn´s 1:50 scale 1931 Ford Model "A" pick-up lettered with the Rio Grande´s "toilet seat" herald. Probably not prototypical but the late Bobbye Hall wouldda called it "cute" just the same!

What did Frisco use for vehicles in the "Dark Ages"? Any documentation?
