I am posting this here to point people to as needed:

I have heard from several people interested in contributing material to the Frisco Archive and asking me how to get the material to me if they are scanning it themselves. Rather than have to explain it over and over I will post it here.

Dropbox is a cloud storage service that offers free accounts (at the basic level).

    Here's how it works:
    • When you sign up and install it, it creates a folder on your computer called Dropbox (see attached picture).
    • You may create any number of sub-folders in this folder (or directory).
    • Anything that you put into the folder(s) will be automatically uploaded to your Dropbox account. You don't have to do anything else, just drop it in and it uploads (thus the name)
    • If you haven't shared your folder(s) (you may choose to share any particular folder and not others) with anyone, then only you can see it. You can access your material from any device that you own though; your computer, tablet, phone, etc. An app is available for phones and tablets.
    • If you share a folder with someone (via an invitation sent by e-mail), then you and that person (or persons) can see the contents of that folder. It makes it easy to collaborate with a person or people on a project.

In other words, if you scanned or moved an image (or any file) into your Dropbox folder it uploads (automatically). If you have shared that folder with me, my computer automatically downloads the file (synchronizes). This is a great way to transfer files without actually doing any particular work to make it happen. When scanning, you can actually set the scanning software to scan right into your Dropbox folder. That's all you have to do.

Anyone that wants to transfer files for the Frisco Archive need only follow these instructions and then share a folder with me (I will give you my Dropbox e-mail address by private message) and I will receive the files.

Anyone that joins Dropbox by using this link will cause Frisco.org to have more space for use on Dropbox. Even if you are not sharing files with the Frisco Archive, this is a free and handy way to back up files, or to store files to be accessed on multiple devices. It's another handy computer tool with a billion uses.

If you have questions, please message me.

Charlie, for those of us already on DropBox but not real familiar with it, you might tell us how to link up. Don't I need your email or something?

Yes, I will PM you my e-mail address if you have something to share. I don't want to post it here due to spam overload.

Charlie, I don't mean to high jack this thread, but I have tried to post a new thread twice, and both times I get the message that Frisco.org can't be displayed. I knew I was on the site because I had been trying to find a pertinent thread for the subject I was needing. You can either delete this if you want after answering me, or move it to a different thread.

    Thanks, Terry

    Terry,

I am not aware of any problems. If it continues, or others have problems, please advise.

Charlie, it happened again twice this morning. I used another E8 thread to ask my question. When I press the submit thread button, I get the message that this page cannot be displayed. I ran a diagnostic test on my computer to find the problem, but it could not find the issue. Thanks for any help you may have.
