I did a google search for "DIY HO Scale Corn Stalks" and looked at http://modeltrains.about.com/od/Scenery/ss/Making-Miniature-Cornstalks.htm#showall Some may already be on to this but I thought it may help others like me. I think I'm going to try this at the far end of my layout. I also found some relate youtube videos as well. This one is about using corrugated cardboard for modeling rows in a field.
Folks, if I can do it, anyone can do it. Here are my results so far. Some church friends donated some old hot wheels vehicles for my layout. With that donation, Speed Racer stopped by to pick a few ears.
I finally finished making all 341 of my cornstalks! I have 11 rows with 31 cornstalks in each row and 3 extra cornstalks.
At a recent train show, I was amazed what they had used for grown corn fields. They had purchased a door mat from Walmart for about $10 and then cut it into strips which were glued to the modular layout. Looked great and very inexpensive. Tony LaLumia
That moment when you've just changed out a water heater for your church, for free, & you get excited because you realise that, in return, God has just blessed you with some very nice cardboard for your layout.
Just a friendly reminder that now is a great time to buy garland with after Christmas clearance prices.
Thanks for the reminder. It's also a good time to collect natural/outdoor material to transform into layout scenery.
