I fully understand (and accept) his reluctance to add builder's plates to the project. Not even close to being a deal-breaker for me.
Not a deal breaker for me either. But a cheesy excuse IMHO. He refers to other mfg's of decal builders plates. The ones I have, there are the same amount for EMD, FM, ALCO, GE and so on BTW if you need FM ALCO builders plates I have a bunch. But the oval shaped EMD, nope. Consider EMD's up to and including GP35's had the oval plate. So you see why there should be 4 times as many of them on a sheet. $8.00 a sheet and either no builder plates on MI decals and $8.00 for MM decals with enough plates to do 4-5 oval plate EMDS. Like I say kinda cheesy these Loco decal sheet should include the plates for every mfgr they propose to represent. Just another incomplete decal sheet to me. But that's just me lol.
Success!!! The Frisco decals have been released by Mask Island. You can place your order at their website ... http://www.maskislanddecals.com/product/frisco-emd-switch-engine-black/ The price per decal sheet is $7.00 and can be ordered directly from Mask Island Decals. Joe
Joe, I thought there were going to be N-scale decals available. All I see is HO. Unfortunately, I can't use those.... Paul
For now they are just HO decals. I'll try to have N scale decals manufactured for the GP-7 locomotives along with HO. If there is good sales of the SW-7/9, it would justify printing decals for N scale on the newly released sheets. Hopefully all of the future releases will include N scale sets. Joe
So is the set only for the simplified scheme? No full stripe option within the set? BLI came out with the simplified schemes on their EMD SW switchers. Plus, I think all of the Stewart Frisco VO10oo's were in simplified scheme. I suspect many of us here have most of the BLI/Stewart offerings in multiple numbers. I know I do. Unfortunately, if the set is only for the simplified scheme, I won't have much use at all for it.
Andre, Sorry I don't know the answer to your questions. I'm not familiar with all the stripped options for the SW-7 and SW-9. All I know is it took 431 days to get a set of decals from the first posted message on January 15, 2016 to this post. Joe
Yes, Joe, which makes it more disheartening that MD has chosen* a set that will have limited appeal among most Frisco modelers. I will probably order a set to confirm what I suspect: One scheme. In view of the duplicity (of factory painted models easily found online), I suspect sales of this set will be less than robust, thus I hope it won't be a deterrent to MD to produce additional Frisco decal sets. * If you'll recall, MD had this set in-process before we, as a group, became interested in MD's offerings. Therefore, we, as a group, pretty much had zero input into what we actually need in regards to black and yellow striped sets.
I requested that the GP-7 be manufactured in all three phases in HO and N scale. Hopefully we will get what we want. Is there anything else that I need to ask for? Joe
Regrettably, I will need little if any simplified switcher decals. The site shows the decal sheet has enough for one locomotive, so might be a long shot for full stripes too.
I just purchased a set of the new switcher decal set to take a look at the yellow, print quality, as well as try to support this project as best I can. (Frankly, I don't see a use for it in my scheme of things, but hey... it was only 7 bucks!) As for suggestions: * Full Stripe Switcher Set(s): Preferably able to be used on EMD, Baldwin, Alco and FM that also INCLUDES the Railroad Roman "FRISCO" as well as the block version of "FRISCO lettering. It may be necessary to split that into two sets, one for EMD/Baldwin, another for Alco/FM. Such a full stripe set can go all way back to the early days of Frisco diesel switchers up to near the end of the Frisco (I think). * Full Stripe GP7 set that includes QA&P hood and sub-lettering. * Full stripe Alco RS-1/RS-2 set(s) that includes AT&N sublettering (for the RS-1's). * Small Switcher set for the 44 tonners, etc. I'm not too familiar with what would be required for such a set. Of the above, seems to me the widest appeal to the Frisco modeling masses would be either the GP7 or the Alco set, but also needed is a Switcher set. I suspect the "Small Switcher" set would have the smallest market. All fer now.
Thank you, Joe, for what you've done for this project! I am going to buy 2 sets for now. I wish it had the AT&N sublettering, but since I'm going to let someone else paint and decal my undecorated RS1 and 44 tonner, I'm not that worried about it. I haven't had enough practice/experience to try it myself. Anything is better than the plain, gray shells I've been running now for 4 or 5 years.
Your welcome Brandon, the switcher is just a start. I'm campaigning for the GP-7 to be the next decals to be manufactured in all three phases. Will also request that a full stripe sheet be printed. Joe
Thanks Joe. I am glad there is at least a start. I talked with Mask Island about these at the RPM show and he was interested in more if their was a demand. I would love to see a 44 ton set for sure!!!!!! RS 1 and QA&P as well.
Your welcome Steve, I've enjoyed the talk about having a special run of decals and to see it go from infancy to a final product. It did take a while, 431 days to be exact, but we got there. Everybody say YEAH!!! . Joe
Ordered mine today. Thanks Joe; I know it takes a lot of work to produce something for the masses. Nice Job. Fingers crossed for GP7's.
I added a poll to this thread so we can determine what type of locomotive decals we want to have manufactured next. There are a few locomotives missing from the poll because I was only given ten choices. If you don't see your favorite please say so, your voice can still be heard. The numbers to the right of the locomotive type is how many Frisco owned. Joe
Your welcome Mike, I have a good feeling about the GP-7L decals. I've alerted Hubert Mask to our conversations about suggestions and comments, so we can have more of a say on what we want. Please vote in the poll to determine what type of locomotives we want to do next after the GP-7L Mask Island is starting to look at the GP-7L and will be doing the artwork in the next few days. Joe
