DCC wiring

Discussion in 'FAQ' started by ozarkcentrallines, Jul 14, 2015.

  1. I'm fairly new to DCC, in fact I'm just starting to rewire from DC to DCC. I have a 13'x25' layout with a peninsula running into the center.

My question is about how the best way to run my wiring for the peninsula. Is it okay to insert a barrier strip to "T" off of my main run to power the track?

Any ideas, suggestion, help would be appreciated.

    thanks,

Phil, it is perfectly fine to Tee off of the DCC buss to power up your peninsula. Some additional advice; you will find operation more reliable if you have a feeder running from the appropriate buss to every section of rail. No section of track should rely on rail connectors to receive power. Also, ideally, if at all possible, frogs should have power routed to them based on the throw of the turnout. You will find that short wheelbase engines (like switchers) will operate more smoothly if that is done.

Don't hesitate to ask more questions. I am the local subject matter expert here in KC and have helped solve many layout electrical problems.

  3. Keith,
Thanks for your help. I've operated Dc for so many years I kinda feel like my grandfather who had to get used to autos after having Ozark mules for years. thanks too for the offer of additional advice if....oops...when I need it.
Didn't realize you were put of KC area. I'm in Springfield. My company has sent me to our communities there quite a bit over the past three years. Loved the area.....lots of places to take train pics.
    Anyway, thanks again,
    Phil
