Here is what's left of the Castor River Bridge located between Greenbrier, 165.4, and Zalma, MP 169.5. The rails were pulled up in about 1935, so these timbers must be made of some tough Cyprus trees or some other swamp tree. I've measured the remaining structure but I don't know what the upper part looked like. Any photographs or suggestions about what a branch line bridge would have looked like during the teens or 1920s? Thanks, Jim
Mom was just telling me about this bridge today. She remembers grandpa catfish fishing off it when she was young. She said that you walk straight through Castor Cemetery to get back to it. She is hoping to find pictures of it when it was still standing. She remembers it as being a steel truss type bridge. She said that wagons were able to cross it also, in addition to the railroad. I am also looking for pictures of Greenbrier bridge to add to the bridgehunter.com site. E-mail me at snoopdorkydork71@gmail.com LDH
