When my Dad and Uncle worked for the Frisco for over 40 years, they tied up at FT. Scott, KS. If they had to lay over before coming back to KC, they kept a car at Ft. Scott, and many times they would drive down to Pittsburg, KS to eat at Chicken Mary's, that was their favority of the two. There also was a good steak place in Pittsburg, KS they use to go to as well but I do not remember the name or if it still around. I am a member of the Heatland Museum at Carona, KS, and Highly recommend it.
Richard: You are probably referring to Jim's Steak House and if so, yes it's still there and as popular as ever. The vintage neon sign out front is worth a drive by picture even if you don't stop there to eat. http://local.yahoo.com/info-17959009-jims-steak-house-and-lounge-pittsburg
Wow, Jim's in Pittsburg. Great spot! Once upon a time, as well, the Red Barn in Ft Scott was worth going to , but that was a long, long time ago. My favorite was Wilers, in Joplin. Buck
A bunch of us ate at Jim's, after the 2009 Frisco Convention, in Pittsburg. I'm pretty certain this is the famous steak house that's been there for many years. My Ribeye Steak was done to perfection - fork tender! They are generous with their servings, including more sides with your meal than other steak houses. Most impressively, besides the great service, their prices are very reasonable - less than the big name places that we have here in K.C. Definitely worth a trip to Pittsburg, or great to stop by, if you are traveling through or staying! Bob Lenexa, KS
