Please see the following link for a photograph of Frisco caboose SLSF ???.

This caboose features a steel under and upper frame with a wood cupola with angled sides and small end windows. The end windows on this car have been blanked out, In addition, over the cupola there is an unusual added angled roof with extended eves. The caboose stove exhause stack has been modified and now features a small cap with a shallow conical shape.

The car's wood sides have been replaced. During the residing the original side windows have been replaced. These windows are now somewhat smaller than the originals. The steel reinforcing rods between the cupola corners and the top side side sill are in place.

The car's under body details, brake rigging and components are in place. Also included are leaf spring caboose trucks with friction bearings. The axles rest on journal brass bearings that were lubricated with oil soaked wadding.

The car is painted freight car red. Unfortunately it lacks the appropriate reporting marks, car number and corporate herald. The original coonskin herald would have included "Frisco Lines". After 1947 the heralds would have been simplified to include the word "Frisco" only.

We are actively seeking the original Frisco car number for this caboose. Anyone with additional information is encouraged to contribute to improve our collective knowledge.

This car is located on the east side of the city. The car sits on the northwest corner at the intersection with N. Hillsdale Rd. Car sits to the west of the dwelling at 54 N. Hillsdale Rd.

The location address is 1700 E. Main St., Tupelo, MS.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

The Santa Maria Valley RR out in CA had (has?) two ex Frisco wood cupola cabooses, and I've seen a photo of several of them on the Pacific Great Eastern RR. Long way from home.
