This is one of the Frisco built steel under and upper frame, wood sided with steel cupola cabooses. It was constructed in the railroad's West Shops in Springfield, MO.

There are plywood covers over the side and cupola windows. The small end windows are uncovered. End railings, ladders and break wheels are intact on this car. The roofwalk laterals and landings appear to need repair work. The car is missing the ladder return rungs to the roofwalks, trucks, end steps and couplers. The car sits on the north side of, and at a right angle to, the highway.

It is painted solid red with no visible exterior lettering, reporting marks or number.

This is another car where we need additional research and help to identify the car's origin, prior location(s) and Frisco car number identity. Any assistance with field research or photographs that you can provide and share would be greatly appreciated by all.

Also at this location is another brighter red wood caboose from the St. Louis Southwestern (Cotton Belt) SSW 123, x-SSW 2034. It sits north of and parallel to the highway, immediately to the east of the Frisco car.

The car is located in California's Central Valley, approximately 53 miles southeast of Fresno and 71 miles north of Bakersfield. The car is located approximately 0.25 miles east of Sprice Ave (a/k/a California Highway 245).

It sits in a largely rural farm area adjacent to and just to the southeast of the parking area for the Orange Blossom Junction Restaurant. The car is not featured on the firm's web site. Please see the following web site link.

    http://www.orangeblossomjunction.com.

The car location address is 20898 Avenue 296 (a/k/a California Highway 198), Exeter, CA.

or With Bing maps one can use the "Bird's eye" view and fly around the 4 quadrants of the car.

    WOW, some track down, Mark.

How the heck did a SLSF caboose wind up in the central California valley?

That has to be a story in its self.

It appears that neither caboose is at that location any longer. I

I have reached out to the owners of Merryman Station, formerly the Orange Blossom Junction, to see if they have any idea where they went.
