The caboose was constructed in 1928 by American Car and Foundry (ACF) for the Atchison, Topeka and Santa Fe Railroad. On that line the caboose was numbered ATSF 1746. This is one of the former Santa Fe 1700 class cabooses.

The Frisco acquired this caboose 9/1969 and several others from the Santa Fe in the late 1960s to replace its older wood side cabooses. This caboose was designated for local service.

Note in the 2nd photo that below the Frisco coonskin herald the ghost image of the number SLSF 1103. Some resources have indicated a car number of SLSF 1108. There is no record of the Frisco ever having for this style former Santa Fe local service caboose a number SLSF 1108.

The caboose has been repainted from the middle window mullion up blue/gray, with white band the width of the lower window pane and light gray below the windows. This paint scheme extended completely around the sides and ends of the car. The Frisco heritage and coonskin herald is showing through the paint.

The caboose is owned by and painted for the Mississippian Railway. It has been renumbered as MISS 103. It is stored outside their shop facility near the south end of the line. Their shops are near the interchange connection with the Frisco southeast of Amory Yard. This is on the Birmingham Subdivision, just northeast of the wye connection with the Columbus Subdivision.

The current address is 937 Main Street South, Amory, MS 38821.

I am saddened to report that further research indicates that Frisco caboose 1103 no longer exists.

Unfortunately the caboose has been scrapped. It was cut up and destroyed in Amory, MS. This occurred on or about 3/29/2009.

Please see the following http://www.rrpicturearchives.net/showPicture.aspx?id=1540558 (3/24/2009).

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!
