Over 10 years ago, I was at the Brazoria County Museum, in Angleton, Texas and saw a photograph of a St. Louis Brownsville & Mexico mixed train, with a Gulf Coast Lines caboose painted white. I think the photograph was pre 1917. I think this was a commercial photograph, as since then, I have seen some other photographs of what look to be the same train on ebay, but at different locations. I had found out that the Frisco Lines refeers, were painted white, and I suspected that they either used excess paint, or were trying to experiment, to see if the cabooses would be cooler in Texas. Since the Gulf Coast Lines had been controlled by the Frisco, prior to the receivership of the system, I was wondering if the Frisco ever experimented with painting cabooses white elsewhere.
