The 734 drew the honor of joining the 4516 as it served its retirement at the State Fairgrounds in Sedalia. Sometime between the time of this photograph in May 1968 and 1974, the 734 was replaced by the Frisco 1109. Utimately the 1109 wound-up in Sarcoxie, MO, and a now MP steel caboose rests behind the 4516.

Anyone know the ultimate disposition of the 734?

I had heard that the caboose dry rotted so badly it had to be replaced. I do know that the 4516 is also not taken care of, the last time I was there with my dad, the rails under the engine had disappeared into the ground but the MP caboose looked pretty good.

I always thought it was ironic that the 4516 and a Frisco caboose ended up in the MP's big shop town. MP didn't bother to save any steam other than an old 4-6-0 at the Museum of Transportation and a piece of a 2-8-0 at Dupo, IL.
Wish someone would do something with the 4516.
