The Frisco bridge, which crossed the Smokey Hill River at Ellsworth was renewed during 1902, 1919, and 1928. During during 1946, the Frisco removed bents three, four, five, six, seven, eight, and nine , and inserted a 70-foot through plate steel girder. I suspect that the 92,848-lbs structure was second-hand, and came from elsewhere on the railroad. At bents three and nine, the Frisco drove three, 6-pile bents to support each end of the steel bridge. In its last configuration, bridge F607.8 was 383 feet long. The south(railroad) approach consisted of a 3-panel, 40-foot ODPT. The main span across the river was a 70-foot through plate steel girder. The north(railroad) approach consisted of a 20-panel, 273-foot ODPT. Northern Division B&B record, Bridge F607.8. Post 1946 image: index.php
