Sounds good to me but right now, just too much to do. :(

    Things will change someday. :)

For now the depot is on display.

Charlie, have you finalized the layout design? If so you might want to set-up a thread for your layout like I did for mine.

Have you updated your roster? We would like to see your list!!! You with out a doubt are the biggest collector when it comes to Frisco models. You probably have 90% of the available Frisco models.

I have not on either account. I will update the roster when possible. I have no free time whatsoever but if I ever find any, I will do an update.

I've been a bad boy. I haven't worked on my layout for five months. Don't know what happened to cause that, just haven't been in the mood I guess. It's been a pretty hectic summer at our house with the normal daily chores and errands and also Cynthia with her busted up feet. Cynthia will have to have another surgery to remove a screw in her right ankle on October 12th. It's causing her to not being able to walk just yet. Monday we're going to see if we can can get her appointment moved up. Three weeks is just to long to wait.

Hopefully it will get better soon because of the weather cooling off. Do you guys know how to help me out of this problem? Your suggestions are welcome!

Your concern: You haven't worked on the layout in about five months.

To which you asked: "Do you guys know how to help me out of this problem? Your suggestions are welcome!"

First question for you to ponder:

What is your philosophical approach to this hobby?

    1. Are you task oriented in that you feel you HAVE to see meaningful progress in order to receive fulfillment from the hobby?

    2. Are you fun oriented to where you feel that the goal is to have fun and enjoy the hobby?

If you're a type 1, then you will need to take a frank look at what's got you stalled (dreading the next step/whatever), and devise a plan to work through it... just like you would at your place of employment.

If you're type 2, then it will sort itself out and the inspiration will likely return. If not, then as long as you enjoyed what you accomplished, then that was sufficient reward. That so, perhaps it's time to do something else with the hobby. (New theme, whatever.)

Historically, I was type 1. One day I was fretting over something hobby-oriented I had been procrastinating and not looking forward to accomplishing when my wife asked me a question that made me rethink my entire approach to hobbies. She simply asked something to the effect of; "Is this your hobby... or a job? I thought a hobby was supposed to be something you do to relax and have fun? Doesn't sound like you're having much fun."

She was right. Since then, I now approach my hobby to have fun. If fun means doing this or that... then I do so. If it means something dies on the vine... no biggie as long as I had fun with the project while it lasted.

Neither approach is THE "correct" philosophy. Both are viable approaches to a hobby. It all depends on your philosophy toward to the hobby and what you want to derive from it. There is no wrong answer or wrong approach.

Best of luck whatever you decide to do.

As a friend wrote to me when I cancelled my volunteering at an event, dumping a big load on him, "You certainly have your priorities straight; family needs to come first (especially [your spouse])." In my case it was ...aging parents," but the principle is the same. We both have more important things taking our attention right now. The other passions will return soon. Meanwhile we are thinking of you and wishing the best for you and Cynthia.

Thank you Andre and George! Your posts mean a lot to me. I'm more of a type two hobbyist. I know I will have more time for the layout when Cynthia can walk again, in the mean time I think I will work on my Ft Smith depot. It's small enough to not take up a lot of room but big enough to show progress in a short amount of time. Right now Cynthia is my first priority though. We appreciate your best wishes for her and her medical issues. It won't be long before she can walk again.

Joe, I've always found your Excel layout plans to be fun to peruse. I have tried out your template before, and I need to spend more time practicing; otherwise, my drawings look like they were done by a cat. Not a smart cat, either.

Well I finally got to work on my layout today. Everybody say Yeah!!! It wasn't much, just glued down some cork roadbed, but at least it's a start. Tomorrow I plan on installing track on modules 04 and 06. I've have several pieces of Peco Code 80 flex track to go with my Peco turnouts. Maybe now I can make a habit of working on the layout five or six days a week, that's my goal anyway. The fall and winter months seams to invite me to do modeling.

Congratulations, Jo e - while it's clearly a matter of family first for you and most of us, I do find that even 15 minutes a day in the layout room can be very therapeutic. And cheaper than professional therapy.

    Keep us posted.

Completing one step or item per day often leads to more, and even if it doesn't, works out to 30 or so steps per month.

I've been able to make a little progress on my layout this week. The track on module 06 is complete and I'm working on module 07 today. The next modules that I plan on working is 02, 03 and 08. On modules 02 and 03 I will just be installing the main line and passing tracks. I don't have enough turnouts to do the yard at this time. My priority is to install the main line and passing tracks on the entire layout and then go back to install sidings. This way I can get trains running soon. I will post photos from time to time.

Yesterday I purchased some 1x4 and 1x2 boards to make L-girder supports for the layout and today I plan on assembling them. This will make it easier to join the modules together.

Last Sunday I built the L-Girder supports for my layout. Starting today thru Sunday will be preparing the spare bedroom for the layout. All I have to do is move some boxes around and install the L-Girders. Next Tuesday will start loading modules 04, 05, 06 and 07. Progress should be faster afterwards because I won't have to crawl around on the floor to work on the layout.

Well, we have decided to move from our apartment to a house so the layout will be put on hold for a while. It also means that I will have to redesign the layout some for the new space. Module 05 will not change but some of the others may. The basic concepts will be the same such as scenery and industries etc... Cynthia and I are looking forward to the change. Hopefully I can be back into layout mode in two or three months.

Joe, we'll look forward to hearing or seeing more once you know more about your available space, or your "land grant" as I believe I've seen Doug Hughes refer to one's available layout space.

Thank you, Chris. Hopefully I will only have to be on hold for one month with the layout. I will try to use as much of the current layout plans as possible. There will be a few changes I know but it won't be a major problem. I would like to add a module that depicts the bridge over the Arkansas River but that depends on the "land grant", to barrow Doug's term.

Well, our housing search is not going well, everything is out of our price range. We may have to get an apartment instead of a house. Our current apartment is right next to the Broken Arrow Freeway and has a lot of traffic throughout the day, a lot of noise. In the meantime the layout is still on hold so I'm going to work on the Ft. Smith Depot and I'm also considering doing some decal work on a Micro-Trains wood caboose. These are both easy projects to do and they don't take up a lot of space. I'm looking forward to this change of pace.
