I made a mistake on the template for the coal mine, size is wrong, should be three inches wide instead of four. The new template has seven poles made from 0.100 inch wood Qtips 0.75 inches long and 0.125" square Balsa wood top beams four inches long. Cross braces are going to be six styrene stripes 0.060 by 0.010 inches.

    Edit: Added photo.

I've been moving all of the big items from storage the last three days and haven't worked on anything layout related. This morning I'm going to continue cutting poles and beams for the bents for coal mine. Need to go to Hobby Town to purchase some 0.060 by 0.010 inch strip styrene this afternoon and start bent assembly.

I moved four modules from storage this afternoon and set up the Arkansas River Bridge in the living room to see how much damage. It's a mess, will take a lot of time to repair. The brown span and south lift tower are the worst. May have to replace the the side trusses, luckily the kit came with extra trusses.

Gabby said she would help, as you can see she's all excited. She will be 19 years old in March.

    Joe,

Don't despair. Looks like a great opportunity to invest resources and build back better.

At the same time you can improve the rigging to more closely represent the prototype. This was discussed in some detail in earlier posts (474, 475, 476) on page 24 of this thread.

    Hope this helps.

    Thanks!

I remember what you said about the rigging, this will be a good time to make changes. Thank you Mark.

This afternoon I disassembled the bridge and gave each one a good look over. Its not as bad as I thought, just a few pieces to glue back on.

My hobby time is maybe a hour each day here lately. On my previous layout most of the eight modules were built hour/day before I went to work. This was around 2002 & 03, had trains running just before I retired. It was my second try on medium sized layouts.

That is an impressive bridge!! Any progress?

Did you know I used to model N scale? Age and the resultant eyesight change moved me to HO and HOn3. If space weren't such an issue, I'd probably switch to O scale!!!

Thank you Paul. I haven't been able to work on the layout for some time, too many things going on. Will explain in the Hi from Broken Arrow thread..

Hi everyone, I haven't been here for a long time and Cynthia and I are doing well. To catch up with what is going on, Gabby our Dachshund passed away March 19th, she was 22 years and 2 days old. When she was younger she could jump up to my waist and I would catch her and she was the best pet that we were owned by her. In March had a second back surgery and Cynthia is in hospice and being treated for a wound on her lower back. On better subject I purchased a new truss bridge to replace the one that was smashed by a microwave in storage, it will give me something to do for the layout. Will drop by once in awhile to update you.

    Hi Joe.

Good to see you drop by.

Very sorry to read of your pet's passing. Our late daughter was a pet person. She had a pet chihuahua that meant the world to her. Plus, her daughter is a pet person, and both of her canines are special to her. Pets can become like family, especially canines.

    Thoughts and prayers for Cynthia.

Please do continue to drop by and say hi and stay in touch.
