I have a neat book on the B&O National Limited, Baltimore-Washington-St Louis, and their Capitol Limited, Baltimore-Washington-Chicago, authored by Joe Welsh. This is one of the too-few books I saved from our estate sale orgy a year ago. Wish I had saved more. I look forward to TRRA's booklet next year. I never rode the National Limited, but I had breakfast in the diner once. Long story. I always liked the B&O. After Larry published the TRRA booklets on the Texas Special and The Meteor a few years ago, I suggested he do one on the Will Rogers, No's 3 & 4. He declined, thinking TRRA had done enough on the Frisco for a while. Maybe in a few more years. I rode #4 just as much as I rode #9 while a student at MSM. The "Will" had real personality. K
Just finished reading a new book by Micheal A. Landis called Show-Me Katy...Although not much regarding Frisco but there are some very interesting shots of North Clinton, the Frisco Clinton depot & a BN coal train from Oklahoma using x-SLSF power...Reminds me a lot of "Rails Around Missouri" the way it is put together, you can't beat $50 bucks for a 178-page all color book....If you are interested in the Katy in Missouri definitely pick this one up...I give it 5 stars & 2 thumbs up...Roger FYI...I seem to recall a discussion about a semaphore signal on the Katy whereas it supposed to be dark territory...this book answers those questions...RRT

About 50/50 red & green....not much on passenger trains as they were abolished in the late 50's...The book is laid out by stations starting at Parsons, KS. & ending in St.Louis...There is a page that pays homage to the Texas Special & Bluebonnet...Roger
Joe, tell Mike he did an outstanding job on his new book, also tell him we expect one on the Rock next, just kidding...If you could post the itinerary of the meetings in Springfield a couple weeks in advance, I might be able to attend some of them...Roger
I ordered one this past weekend from Ron's Books. With his discount, Ron's points, and no shipping cost, Ron is hard to beat. In 1984 we bought a condo on the Lake of the Ozarks, on Horseshoe Bend upstream from the dam. I explored a lot of the MKT between St Louis and Jeff City as we drove back and forth to the lake the ten years we owned it, and when visiting the winery's as well. I look forward to the book as that was a neat stretch of railroad while it lasted. K
Hey Guys, If any of you like to model or like historical information regarding the Kansas City railroad conglomerates, then I have to recommend to you Rails Rivalry and Romance by Donald Banwart. I just received this book today. This has to be the most exhaustive research done on the Kansas railroad history, focusing on all the roads that the Frisco System and some of the Missouri Pacific wound up merging into their larger respective systems. This book has it all. History, locations, maps, photos, and all the nitty gritty about your favorite Kansas roads. I would have liked for there to be more pictures of freight cars, but the resource is invaluable to anyone wanting to understand the history behind these roads and how the railroads grew and dealt with turmoil. I recommend this book. It is a huge resource. All 515 pages. Covers 1864-1980's. Breaks down by year. It is a good read. Levi
I bought a copy of "R, R & R" years ago when it was released. It was even autographed by Don. Good book. It got away from me during our 2006 estate sale in St Louis before we moved down to Naples, FL - somebody bought it. I lost a lot of treasured books that way but had no choice as we do not have the room here for a major book collection. So be it! Don included a good description, including the newspaper story, about the collision between a MKT train and the almost brand new E8 SLSF 2022, Middleground, at Ft Scott in 1952. K
That story came up just about a year ago: http://www.frisco.org/shipit/index....1950s-diagrams-1-emd-e-units.2939/#post-71305 Curiouser and curiouser...
I purchased my copy of Banwart's book off of Amazon a few years ago. One minor tear on the cover was not a deal-breaker (and easily fixed with Scotch tape), and it is my RR book book case.
