Re: Frisco Bibliography Joe, Those are not on my list but I do have a couple of others to add when I get home. I am in Rhode Island at the moment but when I get home I will update mine. Charlie
Re: Frisco Bibliography RAILS WEST: By George B. Abdill, Covers the history of many western bound trains. Chapters on Frisco, Katy, Mopac. Plus several pics of shortlines that connected with the SL-SF. Plenty of good pictures throughout the book.
Re: Frisco Bibliography "Midwest Florida Sunliners" is a book by R. Lyle Key, Jr. This book was published in 1979. While most of the book is about the likes of ACL, Seaboard, Florida East Coast, etc., it does have an 11 page chapter on the Kansas City-Florida Special. There is also a 2 page article about the Pensacola train. Tony
Guys, We had talked about this in the past and as such I have started work on a Frisco Bibliography. It is not complete but is ready for some viewing. Bear with me and I will improve it and ask you folks for additions as well. I have several things to add to it as time allows over the coming days. Charlie
Charlie, while searching for Frisco Steam Finale (out of print), I came upon an earlier title that Stagner had written entitled Steam Locomotives of the Frisco Lines. The Steam Finale book was written after the Steam Locomotives of the Frisco Lines. I found it on Amazon and there are several copies available. The listing has all of the info you are placing in your bibliography, so I know you would want to add it to you list. Thanks for your hard work in this and other areas that you do for us. It is greatly appreciated. Terry
It is the same book. The one on amazon is showing the paper back book which looks different from the book you are listing. Sorry, I thought I had found something to add. Terry
Title: The Georgian Locomotive Author: H. Stafford Bryant, Jr. Publisher: Weathervane Books LCCN: 62-11510 ISBN: Format: Hardcover Pages: 90 Frisco Content: 12% This book is a discourse on design that offers a rich overview of how the choice of appliances and their location produced a truly well-proportioned, handsome machine, the Georgian Steam Locomotive. It gives no set of plans per se, but does offer modelers and enthusiasts a guide to the proportion, decoration and arrangement of appliances that created the distinct appearance of the steam power for each of the railroads studied. The chapter on the Frisco has good commentary and illustrations how this was done on the SL-SF. Anyone who reads the first two pages in the Frisco chapter without genuine amusement and a tear in the eye is just not human. George
There is a book entitled "Midwest Florida Sunliners", by R. Lyle Key Jr. This book was published in 1979. It contains a 10 page chapter on the Kansas City-Florida Specail, along with some photos. There is also a separate mention about the Pensacola sleepers along with a couple more photos. Tony LaLumia
Re: Frisco Bibliography Lyle Key wrote (actually co-wrote) the great Birmingham Rails book and put out the terrific Green Frog videos "Passenger Trains of the 60's." The videos have fifteen or twenty run-bys of the Frisco Kansas City-Florida Special, Sunnyland and Southland. TG
Guys, Can you get me a scan of the cover on these books and the other information as provided for each book? If so, I can get them on. Charlie
