In my quest to land some Frisco E8's, I have pondered the possibility of using a stand in. Would the Proto 2K L&N E8's be suitable starting points? Or are there better choices, in case I can't land one? If so, what are the major differences? Forgive me if this is already posted elsewhere. Thanks, Craig
This might help: http://www.frisco.org/vb/showthread.php?t=1541&highlight=E8 I'll keep looking...using the Search engine, topic E8
Craig - Keep your eye on eBay. The Frisco Proto 2000 E8's, both first and second runs, still show up now and then. Ken
Thanks Ken, I'll do that. I seem to go in cycles where I watch eBay daily for awhile and then get sidetracked for weeks/months. My friends say it might be because I have a life. lol. (That's not to say faithful eBay watchers don't. )
I was thrilled to find that the E8's traveled the Ft Smith Sub... to think of one of those beauties rolling thru li'l ol' Seligman... Cool... Thanks Gordon M.
Craig - P2K SLSF 2016 is a beautiful locomotive. See my article in the upcoming issue of The Meteor. Ken
Wow, Craig, I see that the bidding for "Citation" is really getting up there. I see there is another one on ebay. However, that one isn't running. He doesn't say what the problem is. Anyway, good luck again. Terry
Yeah, I'm going to wait. Hopefully one will come along that I don't have to fix. I'm willing to pay a fair price, but I want it in very good shape. I did get one of the decal sheets earlier, in case I can't get one or if I wanted to change the name/number. I need to look up which ones frequented the Ft Smith sub. Thanks for the support. I have a saved search set up for ebay for Frisco HO scale, but it didn't catch the E-8. I had to search under E-8 to find it. Again, thanks for tipping me off. I've expanded my search now.
Craig - If it is the same one I saw on eBay, the center axle truck journal boxes were missing from each A-1-A truck. Hopefully, they are loose in the box as they do come off easily. If not, they aren't hard to get as a replacement from Walthers, but just the same it is something else you would need to do. There will be others! P2K pumped out an awful lot of first run E8's, Frisco included, so there are a lot of them out there. The second run is a bit harder to find, but they do show up now and then as well. Me - I'm indifferent between the two P2K Frisco runs. They each have their plusses and minuses. They also run together quite well. Ken
Thanks for the info. Ken. I didn't realize how far behind the curve I was in Frisco knowledge and keeping up with model RR hobby until I joined this site, but it sure is fun catching up. Craig
The bidding on this model got out of hand quickly. I haven't paid that much for any of my E8s, even though I might have been tempted to because they are really great models. Terry
FYI, differences I noted between the HO first release P2K Frisco E8 (SLSF 2016, 2020) and the second release P2K Frisco E8 (SLSF 2019,2022): o 1st has black numberboards with clear numbers, 2nd has black numberboards with white numbers o 1st has a separate piece for the pilot you must fit on, 2nd has pilot integral to the body o 1st has silver trucks and fuel tank, 2nd has gray trucks and fuel tank o 1st has two steam generators, 2nd has one (Frisco E8's had two, E7's had one) o 1st has handrails above the windshields, 2nd does not o 1st has large over-size w/s wipers (ugh!), 2nd has delicate w/s wipers molded into the windshield o 1st has weatherstrip molding around the windshield, 2nd does not o contour of the nose on the 2nd looks a bit better to me than the 1st. Ken ps - I guess if I just wanted to obtain one unit, I'd try for the first release. There are more of them around as well.
