Still waiting for my Sprog III DCC system to arrive but I have a question in the mean time. I have only two turnouts and they're Atlas #4 code 83s. Are they good to go when I hook up the DCC system? I have lots of feeder wires all around the layout and a capacitator in my loco. I just want to be ready.

    Jim,

I know others will chime in, but all my research with Fast Tracks says that the diverging route rails need to be cut, and insulated. You can power or non-power the frog to determine power routing. That's all I know. Please don't go by me. Wait for others as I am in the same boat as you are with DCC. I just thought I'd share what I've read.

James, your Atlas Code 83 turnouts should be fine. There is no need to cut anything. The frog is insulated from the lead rails and points.

Thanks. I thought I was in the clear but needed to be sure. I'm really chomping at bits to get ol' #151 under steam.

    Hi.
I'll pipe in with one additional thought: I have a few short-wheelbase locomotives as well as some steam locos that occasionally have stalled at turnouts - especially sound units. I've connected some Frog Juicers to these turnouts and the stalling has ended. (Interestingly, the Atlas locos don't seem to have this trouble - they've been quite dependable.)
