Wholesale trains still lists them advanced reservation. They'll probably list them as available tomorrow if they have them. As for model train stuff, either they didn't get any of them or already sold them out but on the sound version they don't have #846 or #851.
I looked at toy train heaven and their prices are a lot higher, and they got all but one number, 846, in stock. And for sound the only one they have is 848.

These look like they are going to go fast like the SD45 so if you want one get i now.

This link from Modeltrainstuff shows a few left in stock, including 1 XR series, there were 5 when I ordered late last evening of this one alone. Like Ethan says these things are gonna go fast, and not for much cheaper than these. They have less than half of what they did last evening.

I have mine ordered a long time ago. If anyone is going to put the strobe on the top, that would be a good instructional thread. I would like to see how to do it.

Sounds like the strobe, gyralight and sound installation will be a task for me to document.

Keith, you sure do a heck of job installing those strobes and gyro lights! I like to run my SD40-2 up and down the Zalma branch just for the sound and light show. It's awesome! You're the best, man.

I just talked to Wholesale Trains, and they said they won't have them to ship until Sept. 1. I was getting nervous because I reserved the 846 eons ago and was wondering why their web site didn't show them as available like other hobby stores are showing. Anyway, they are honoring the price I locked in back then ($175.47) which is good. I know they make up some of the discounted price with their high shipping fees. Have any of you received yours , yet, and, if so, how do you like it/them?

Factory Direct Trains also shows a couple of numbers available if someone here hasn't been able to find them.

p.s. I meant to echo Jim's high praise of Keith on his dcc installations.

Dang. Wonder why whole sale trains is going to be late getting theirs? I called a couple weeks ago and they said they had one coming for me (I was worried cause i ordered in July of 2011). So hopefully we can see these running around our layouts here within a couple weeks.

I was worried, too, because I specifically wanted the XR series number, and they were running out at my other regular hobby stores. She said that they are coming, so we will just have to wait a little longer.

Got my 846 today from MB Klein, it looks really good, a few details to add but no big deal. Ordered it Monday and here today.

Tom - How does the red/orange look compared to Atlas' previous GP38, MP15 and B30-7 models? Hope it is the same! I think Atlas had the best color.

    Yes Sir it does.
Matches the other GE's atlas has put out, as well as the newer Athearn stuff, I think it is just fine.

Great! Though I'm a confirmed black & yellow fan, I do very much like the look of the red/orange & white when new and clean.

Would someone be willing to take a photo of one and post it. I realize there are ones on the Atlas site but those aren't the same as far as I'm concerned.

Bob (FriscoFriend) - As Atlas has reintroduced the Alco S2 to their line, me thinks it would be a good time to chat with them about doing one in the SLSF b/y colors.

It would also be a good after-market part for someone to do a cabless end for one so that SLSF 292 could be modeled easily as a "B" unit S2, aka "The Headless Humpster".
